The black roof does make it look a little more dated, but for me that is how the NSX looks - so my personal taste prefers the black roof (and it does make it look lower).

Blue '08 FD2 CTR - big, ITR-sized shoes to fill...
Yellow '96 NSX 3.0 - oh was it worth the wait!
Black '99 ITR - well, I had to have another one, the first was so much fun. Miss this one even more than #1...
Blue '03 S2000 - SOLD, flawed but fun
Blue '04 Focus TDCi Sport - SOLD, very good fun for a diesel!
Black '00 ITR - SOLD, still missed
Red '98 Civic VTi - SOLD, probably still bombproof

I had never really thought about it before, but at what stage did Honda start producing the NSX in a single body colour?

Was it always an option - I can't recall seeing any early cars in single colour?

Y1 is a single colour....I don't recall seeing many other pre-facelift cars finished like this (though there was an all red car for sale in the Midlands 4 or 5 years ago, about the time I was looking around)

    Gratuitous photo opportunity......

That might have been T1 NSX which was a red NA2 previously owned and written off by a chap called Clive occasionally on here! It was sold subsequent to his £30K+ repair bill - and was at a performance car garage near Hagley about 4 years ago!

All T's are body coloured for a start. My old 2000, with pop-ups was, I was lead to believe, the only 1999 onwards NA2 with a black roof and had to be specced that way from the factory. Not sure if that is true but ?I havent seen another post '98 with a black roof so may be...

Weren't all autos and targas single colour?

I think the black roof became an option rather than standard with th NA2 coupés in late 1997 and most late pop-ups are single colour.

W.R.T the 599GTO, I've never been a fan of the 599 shape and the to my eyes the black roof doesn't help it... Love those wheels though IMHO black roofs on front engined coupés make them look like convertibles with the roof up. The rear window of the NSX helps it avoid that particular look

Single colour cars were available from day one.
The only problem was that you had to buy a black one....

I nearly bought a black one, one of the more acceptable colours IMHO.

Not all T-tops were body coloured.I had a 96 T-top and it had a sort of black vinyl roof on it which was a factory option

Red cars looks Rad. From the front it suits red roof. But from the side and the rear the black roof suits it more. So either way still a stunning car.

Being a fan of Honda engines, I later went to Honda's Tochigi Research Center on two occasions and requested that they consider building for the McLaren F1 a 4.5 liter V10 or V12. I asked, I tried to persuade them, but in the end could not convince them to do it, and the McLaren F1 ended up equipped with a BMW engine.
