Thread: REPLACEMENT EXHAUST? THE SEARCH IS OVER!

  1. Default REPLACEMENT EXHAUST? THE SEARCH IS OVER!

Hi Everyone. Like most of us, I wasn’t keen on the oval chrome finishers on the small-bore pipes that come as standard. Along with better looks, I wanted better sound but no booming on motorways, etc. There seemed to be many options available (from expensive to very expensive!) but thanks to Dale (of NSX 1 fame- thanks Dale!), I was introduced to Zorstec (www.zorstec.com). OK for us southern pansies it’s a fair trip up north but boy was it worth it! I now have the looks and sound but was amazed to find that the car goes even better than ever. The exhaust Andy Ainsworth of Zorstec made and fitted (£750 all in!) has relieved the system of all backpressure and the car is now easier to drive and feels like it has a handy power boost (proven at Brands Hatch last Monday). I wanted an OEM look to my rear end (see link below - I'm the fat bastard on the left), hence the four pipes with rolled ends but Andy can do anything you like. Believe me boys (and girls), I’ve been looking for some time and for looks, sound, performance and price, Andy’s your man. Cheers, David. PS. I’m not on commission I’m just delighted with the result and thought I’d pass it on!

    Nice one David,

Is the system much louder than original?
    Is it tuneful?

how long did you need to leave your car with them?

    Thanks

Hi Mo. I wanted to keep my car 'street legal' so the ‘cats’ are still in place, as a result, it's not overly noisy. However, you really notice it on start up and it 'burbles' on tick-over. I'm happy to say at motorway speeds you don't notice it much but, as you are driving away from any noise, it’s clear other road users can - based on the admiring glances! Fact is, it sounds much better than original and as I said, it’s now more driveable (especially from stand still and in slow moving traffic). The exhaust took just under two days to make and fit. I left it with Andy on a Thursday morning and picked it up Saturday morning – although I could have had it back on Friday night if I lived a little closer. I’m well pleased! Cheers, David.

Did you have the car dynoed before and after? Even if you only did it now it would be interesting to see the rear wheel HP.

Two years ago I owned a 3.0 NSX and if you go on the Zorstec website you will see my car on display. Zorstec is very good and my BHP went up to 290 with a torque figure of 225. My car was also on Men & Motors when being dyno tested. I now own a 3.2 6 speed. My 1/4 mile time went from 13.7 to 13.4 @ 105mph. Cut out in 5th gear I got 179mph. Any performance questions just e-mail me or call me on 07776305426.

any pics from underneath the car? who makes the muffler box?
If your fear of staying alive, outweighs the thrill of making the corner, brake.

Yes I found the place through a biker friend of mine and then Andy replicated a Titec exhaust from a few pics I gave him. The sound was abit too loud although the power increase made is worth while.

Worth knowing when the time comes to replace the stock exhaust. Did he do the headers as well?

No because it was the first time he had worked on an NSX I didnt feel he knew enough about the car to make headers. Making headers is a very specialist area and any mistakes in length could upset the engine. Leave this area to the specialists who try and test the headers for even flow. Although I never bought any headers for mine I believe they do make a difference to performance.
