Thread: Car History Check

    Default Car History Check

What is the best way to do a car history check? Or should I say which company does the most comprehensive check.
    I'm concerned about
1 milage, but this can be hard to check
2 has the car been repaired in anyway
3 is there still any finance on it

    Thanks in advance

    Paul.

If our cars are anything to go by registering on the owners club and asking questions through their website is probably as fool proof as anything ;-)

If not I guess HPI seems the most widely used.

What you got your eye on Paul?

Textcheck is a quick easy way....

Don't be to reliant on these though as I know of a Porsche that was Cat D a few years back.....but was clean on the HPI records

I think you will find that our website and cars are pretty unique.

With the exception of the NSX I haven't bought a second hand car in years, but I'm worried about accident damage and finance being owed.

AA/ RAC check perhaps then for the quality of the car and another for finance etc.

Perhaps this site is - still worth a look though, if it is a car with a following of any type / value there will be people who care and keep an eye on the bad ones! I suppose it is different when there are thousands made and potentially thousands crashed etc.

Depends what you're looking at and how much it is!

If it's over £20k then I'd be iunclined to get a RAC check done on the car and also take it to a specialist garage to let them give it the once over.

Someone with a good eye will point out even the lightest repair and check for non-factory welds to see if any panels have been replaced.

I can always run a HPI through my dealer account but the protection limit on my account is only around £6k. With a full priced check you'd be better off as you'd be protected for a larger amount but there are still certain conditions such as cloned cars. Check out a car for yourself but take a friend who can offer an unbiased opinion as it's easy to get swept away by falling in love with a car before you've actually checked it properly........still happens to me on the odd occasion and i sell them for a living
If you both think she's a 'good un' then get in a specialist to check it over just for your peace of mind. I've had a few people have their Skylines and Evos checked over lately, any reasonably honest person won't object. Give me a call if you want me to HPI it for you, as long as you drop a fiver into a cancer charity box then i don't mind doing one for you.

Dave, thanks for the very kind offer. After chatting with a few peeps I have decided to sell my car privately first (before you all scream, I'm not talking about the NSX) and then take a look around again. If I go with a private sale then I'll go down the full AA/RAC inspection route.
    Thanks again
    Paul.
