Default Air-conditioning retrofit on early cars

Ok, so I’ve read most of the threads on the forum regarding owners cars still running on the dregs of R12 but wanting/needing to update/upgrade.

    My question is!

What is the definitive advice for this issue? And what is actually needed? Even better if you’ve actually done it!

    Any help appreciated,

    Cheers.

I've upgraded to run R134 gas, which meant changing the compressor, it's mounting bracket & I needed a new pulley. You can read the conversion here, last coupe of pages......

I still manage to get the system maintained with R24 which is similar to R12 but more enviromentally friendly. The cost of the recharge is higher but on balance it works well and is cools better than the R134 system.
