Thread: AC Condensers …

    Default AC Condensers …

    After 24 years it appears the condenser rads are giving up the fight so I need to replace as part of my AC service and overhaul.

    Q1 - anyone have a nearly new pair available to fit the 98 NA2?
    Q2 - anyone able to recommend a UK source for new alternate / aftermarket replacements?

    Hi Paul,

    Sadly I can't really help directly, but I have been using Amayama for new parts and I have to say the service from them has been fantastic. Their prices are not too bad (about £150 for a condenser) BUT you have to factor in shipping and customs import charges.

    If you can't get any in the UK this may be an option for you (and of course whatever the price may be for sourcing in UK).

    Hi, Paul.
    Don't have direct experience but try the a/c specialist with large factory/garage.

    Some of them should have contacts with the heat exchanger companies.

    I know at least one owner had his condensers replaced with aftermarket one with small modifications for the fittings.
    Don't know the required energy dissipation spec but they should have some idea by looking at the OEM one.






    The new OEM one is still available in Japan.
    I just got delivery.

    As Jim mentioned, about £150 each + delivery + tax.

    Because of the fragile fins, it has to be well protected so when shipping outside of Japan, will end up in fairly big box.

    Japan has just entered the summer holiday season so you may not get any answer until after mid next week.

    Also, Japan is in the middle of covid surge so extra time required for pretty much everything.


    Replacing the condenser requires the removal of the front bumper so I would think twice before going ahead as the alignment of the front bumper would be never the same.


    Please be careful when dealing with the fittings at the condensers.
    Most likely, some of them are already seized.

    Best replacing the A/C pipes at the same time.

    I always recommend replacing the one between the L-side condenser and the drier/receiver plus the thick horizontal one connecting the two condensers.
    Addition to this, I recommend replacing the stiff, long and multiple angled one that runs under the right side of the front compartment.


    You can refurbish your existing compressor but it could be cheaper and much more reliable by replacing it with the new Denso remanufactured one.

    Please pay extra attention to the comment section of this post as you have 97+ offset for the pulley and the mounting bracket.

    Ideally, you want the 471-1193 but it's out of stock at the moment.

    You could use 471-1194 that has the wrong pulley diameter as well as the wrong connector.

    Just get 4Seasons #47598 pulley/CL/coil set and swap them in. This set has 97+ offset.

    You can either re-use your field coil or use the new one and utilise the connector from your existing one.

    After reading this thread, I am now thinking about reinstating the AirCon in my car, although that will probably be a project for next year.

    I replaced my condensers as the original ones were in a terrible state, see my thread here

    I managed to source a secondhand one through Ebay from Canada but couldn't find another secondhand one, even looking for months, as I was in no rush initially but eventually also had to source the other from Amamyama.

    What are the condition of your fan motors ? I had to replace these aswell but managed to source secondhand from a Honda Goldwing motorbike.

    Thanks for the links and thoughts … current position …

    - have tested fans/fuses and units appear in good working order
    - used the cold water spray test and put system under 10bar load
    - compressor is being removed and will be fully refurbished
    - given the number of potential leaks and weak points identified, all pipe work will be replaced when reinstalling compressor
    - new dryer to be installed

    Whilst the rads appearance shows corrosion, we could identify no leaks, so due to the work involved with bumper etc., the plan is to complete the above, recharge the system and if all ok run as is for rest of the year. Post the summer period will source new units from Japan and install over winter.

    If all goes to plan, system will up and running by end of the month …

    Hi Kaz

    I'm struggling to identify the exact pipes these are from the diagrams as it seems they are not in situ - Ive just ordered two condenors so would like to replace these pipes at the same time while the bumper is off, could you let me know the part numbers please if you can?

    Don’t know whether your original system was R12 or R134a so you need to be bit careful with the fitting thread/pitch spec.

    For the pipes mentioned, the fitting should be compatible as I know someone already installed the R134a spec pipes on original R12 condensers.

    You will be forced to replace the drier/filter/receiver anyway as you are disturbing the system so again, the fitting is compatible at the receiver.

    Unless you really have to replace it, you may want leaving the long-long 80327- as per comment in the photo.

    If replacing the condensers, you may want replacing/refurbishing the 2 x condenser fan motor as well.

    The brush could be at the end of its life (one of the motor stopped on my NSX because of this) or enough moisture may have already entered.

    Can be done without removing the front bumper but so much easier while you have full access to the space.

    OEM motor is not that cheap considering what it does.

    80151-SL0-A01 x 2 (same motor in use at R & L)
