as per usual the comments in the forums is the usual drivel from people who have never driven the car, understand it and the usual no power
it all gets rather boring to read.

would love the opportunity to bid on this, but outta my league

 To all that. Type-S would probably be my real-world ideal...only downsides with this car are it's silver (personal bete-noire about performance cars) and it's not got the BBS.

Blue '08 FD2 CTR - big, ITR-sized shoes to fill...
Yellow '96 NSX 3.0 - oh was it worth the wait!
Black '99 ITR - well, I had to have another one, the first was so much fun. Miss this one even more than #1...
Blue '03 S2000 - SOLD, flawed but fun
Blue '04 Focus TDCi Sport - SOLD, very good fun for a diesel!
Black '00 ITR - SOLD, still missed
Red '98 Civic VTi - SOLD, probably still bombproof

^ Agree - I have missed you posting here.

Do you get to drive the Type S much, or is it still a shelf for other projects?

I enjoyed the video of your car being compared to the Ferrari round the Surrey Hills - it came out very well.

    Thanks chaps

Nick, that was one of the last proper outings the NSX had!!!

The NSX currently lives in a Carcoon while my new garage is being completed. We moved house about 20 months ago and one of the criteria was the ability to garage 4+ cars. The NSX competes for purely pleasure miles with the E Type and 12C which live in the regular garage and are hence easier to access and use. Not that I manage to use them much either!

Will try to attached a pic of the new garage which will house a parking lift so that I can double stack 2 of them

    Cheers

A 12C....very nice! I noticed that these have become sort-of affordable.

How long have you had yours and what has it been like to own Mark?

It's an incredible machine and I absolutely love it. I've had it 3 1/2yrs, only covered 5000 miles in it (total of 25,000) but it's been almost faultless.

I did a tour of Northern Spain shortly after the 2016 NSX Eurotour and it was a revelation. Superbike fast as a Spanish Fireblade pilot found out up in the mountains (we stopped and had a nice chat about our 20min dice) but amazingly comfy while returning 33mpg on the motorways.

There seems to be a lot of "hate" for McLaren with some issues and failures being exaggerated and mis-represented on various forums. The McLaren forum on PistonHeads in particular has descended into a farse with the same old mis-information being posted over and over dragging almost every thread off topic and into the depreciation weeds Servicing is expensive at McLaren dealers (£1400 for an inspection and oil change!) but a couple of specialist options have opened up recently (e.g. Thorey Motorsport). I've run with out a warranty for 2 yrs and am therefore quids in despite the trolls insisting that every McLaren will rust, it's gearbox will fall out and it will catch fire... very day!!!
They're unbelievably good value now and not nearly as troublesome as the internet would have you believe. IF big things do go wrong repair will cost a small fortune but that's no different to similar machinery from Aston, Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini etc.

Waaaaay back, before the GenII NSX appeared, we had a long discussion here on the spiritual successor to the original NSX. We thought the original R8 V8 and then rumoured new McLaren best fitted the brief and I think we were right. The original NSX was a different take on the standard "supercar" recipe and so was the 12C I love both cars for exactly that reason and both are keepers. Guess I'll have to decide which one to be buried in as the Jag will probably have rotted away by then

After press feedback that the 12C wasn't as supercar'y as the Ferrari 458, McLaren rather lost their nerve and newer models have converged toward that standard supercar recipe with pointy'er/flashier styling, noisier theatrical engine/exhaust notes and slide'ier handling  ... which is just not for me.

Steve/Ollie here has or had a 12C Spider and quite a few owners in the USA have both an NSX and 12C in their garages

Here's a pic of mine trying the garage for size...

Hi Mark, hope you are well. I'm very much liking your double garage and it looks like something that would be cheaper than the standard oak type garages you see for sale in the back of car mags. Can you tell us a little bit about them please.

In the first picture is that a mountfield lawnmower?

No it's a BMW Paul Yep it's an old Mountfield rotary, complete with a hole rusted through the deck, still works OK though

I debated between an OAK frame or Log Cabin style building for ages. If you search around the non premium suppliers who advertise in the car mags there isn't much difference in total cost and I preferred the thicker walls (warmer) of the Log Cabin style. Log cabins are also better if you want windows and personnel doors.

I upgraded to 70mm (thickness) walls and had it custom sized to fit the 30m (square) permitted development rules. Got it from a company called "Quick Garden" who make them to order in Holland (I think). I also upgraded the roof to one by Metrotile which uses large metal tiles treated and coated to look like slate/clay ones but which are much lighter and tougher. Total cost was about £13K which includes the slab, 12mm porcelain floor tiles and Rollerdor (model RD55) doors. The new and extended driveway to get to the new garage was another £20K though!

Really pleased with the result, just need a parking lift now to 3 cars in there

The garage came in a REALLY big kit, here a few pics of it mid build and of the roof tiles and doors...
