Annual Service + Audio Head Unit 04

As mentioned several times, in my view, I don’t see the point in
carrying out the annual service on classic cars based on the service menu
designed for all Honda cars including the latest models.

Instead, I always recommend the owner to carry out the Health Check
once a year and combine it with other services such as Eng Oil/filter change,
fuel/air filter change, etc.

This will result in saving the money as well because you may be able to
keep using the same parts even if it was advised to be replaced by
the standard menu.

So, the owner came back for another Health Check together with several services.

Almost exactly the same photos that you saw recently.
Filled the filter with fresh Mobil 1 and extracted extra oil from the top after
draining most of the used oil from the bottom.

I don’t like the idea of filling the washer tank to the neck because
when you drive the car and either the washer fluid dances around or
warms up, it tends to leak out from the tiny hole at the centre of the cap
for the fluid level gauge.

So, I normally stop filling it between half and full tank.

Excuse the poor focus of the photo.

This is the seal at the edge of the rear hatch glass near the recess for
lifting the hatch.

The seal was warped and took set due to the heat coming out of the
engine bay grill.

The owner wanted me to do something about this so I thought about
using the clear liquid gasket with heater gun to keep the seal in place.

However, because the seal was already warped and set, there was no guarantee
that it won’t dislocate itself again so came to a conclusion to leave it as it is
unless the owner wants to replace it with a new one.

Was in the process of ABS flush but decided to look into the battery drain issue
because I couldn't stop thinking about it.

The owner wanted me to replace the GND cable.
The battery is fairly new and it was on battery conditioner until a few days ago.

Then, today, before replacing the GND cable,
the cranking speed was very slow and I couldn’t fire up the engine.

The battery voltage was down to 10V in just 2 – 3 days.

This explained why I felt bit strange yesterday when I fired up the engine
because the cranking speed was not like my NSX.

The owner used to have battery drain issue but since he replaced the
security system to modern one and only experienced the battery drain issue once
since then, I didn’t pay much attention yesterday.

Measured the current and read about 84mA (should have disabled the camera flash)
when the security was not armed after reconnecting the battery.

I must admit, I should have waited longer because it seems that the security system
doesn’t arm the immobiliser for several minutes after it was disarmed by the remote fob.

My NSX is at about 80mA when the factory security system is armed.

Unless I can find the fuse for the new security system installed on this NSX,
I won’t be able to measure the exact current with/without the security device
because even it is not armed, it needs the electrical power to extablish the
starter circuit.

Not going to spend too much time on this as I must be ready for
the collection this weekend.

Also, I found another box on this NSX and it could be draining the current
under a certain condition.

Almost as if it is being reset and starts to wake up once the battery was
disconnected or went flat and keep operating until a certain condition was met.

After replacing the GND cable and re-charging the battery,
I managed to drive to the petrol station, re-fuel the car and then fired up at the
petrol station without any issues although the cranking speed was not similar to
mine.

So, it seems the car needs to be left longer between the two fire up in order to
investigate futther.

The owner carries the jump battery pack in the boot and it is fully charged so
seemed to be getting used to this kind of situation.

I was very concerned if I couldn't fire up the engine at the petrol station after
paying for the fuel because you are not supposed to jump start the car
near the pump.

Will continue with the Health Check and wash the car so that
the owner can collect it over the weekend.

Almost there and then I can finally take some break as
I have been working continuously for almost 7 weeks without any breaks now…..
