Recently, spent many hours looking into the future of forum software.
Probably spent too many hours as now I'm well behind updating my own blog.
Must create this quickly as I already done so many things since my last update.
Will be spending some time investigating the cost side of the forum software options but for now, will focus on the blog side.
New EPT sealer installed for the dust prevention.
Final check including testing the odometer as it was removed for cleaning purpose.
Added only small amount of mileage for testing.
Provided several missing parts for the owner.
No further issues with the speedo, detailed calibration on speedo especially around 20, 30, 40, …, 70mph and happy with the result.
As in the earlier post, probably one of the worst leakage ever seen on UK based gauge cluster.
As same as all other electrical services, replacing the capacitor is less than 10%, if not below 5% of the actual time being spent for the service.
Just finished another A/C CCU board service and for the first time, compared the actual time spent replacing just the capacitor on a new board and compared the ratio against all the time being spent.
100% I can confirm that replacing the capacitor was less than 1% of all the time required for the level of repair required.
Back to this gauge cluster.
For the calibration, took extra time to meet my specific target.
Although it was clear that the speedo needle showed ‘hang’ effect, was not able to create exactly the same issue (gauge stays at 0 for quite some time, etc),
recommended the owner to replace the VSS with the cheap aftermarket one first for diagnosis.
Interesting to hear that he didn’t have enough wire length when used the non-flylead style VSS.
Probably something to do with the very early AT model because I was able to use OEM later spec VSS (without the flylead) on many AT models in the past.
After not just hours but days of extra tasks, finally this gauge cluster was ready to be returned to the owner.
Already returned and the owner was happy with the result.
3 more gauge cluster blog to follow and very interesting findings with them.
