A/C CCU Board service A-03

Rate this Entry

Finally, managed to work on this worst condition board that I have ever seen.
As in my previous blog A/C CCU Board service A-01 and A-02,
the previous service caused more damage than repairing the board.

Just shocking.......

I already knew that it will cost a lot if I repair this board so I checked the
price of a new board from Japan as well as the number of stock.
It was much cheaper than UK or US price so requested about the information
on the shelf life.
As almost all of the parts being used are not RoHs compliance that
all of the stocked ones were from ages ago so best to have the capacitors
upgraded even for the new board.

Sourcing the refurbished board was another option but I won’t know
any of the history.

After discussing several options with the owner, he was kind enough to
let me try repairing this board first before going down the route of ordering the
replacement new board.

Repairing of this board was also for my self satisfaction so as a backup,
I have offered the owner to have the new board under agreed conditions in case
the repaired board fails within several months (I hope not.....).

So far, I repaired so many boards (including mine) and none of them came back to me.

Lots of joint, track, pad were missing on both sides of the board so had to use
different method as seen in the past.
Connecting the missing tracks at both side of the board using the through hole method.

Had to use this at several places.....

After quick bench testing, decided to carryout initial testing on actual NSX
before carrying out the final cleaning and coating process.
Very good result.

Time for the final cleaning and the conformal coating.

It was almost impossible to remove all of the debris caused by the
previous poor service so applied bit thicker layer than normal to prevent
any debris from moving.

At the end, 6 x hard wire, 6 x jumper wire, several components replaced with
new one and total of 25 extra areas were repaired.

By far, the worst and the longest service that I have ever experienced.

Final testing.
Due to severe damages to the board, spent extra time and
repeated the same testing method each time after applying
several thermal shock.
At the end, the outside temperature got too cold and the
evaporator temperature was too low to engage the compressor so
had to warm up the garage.

After many testing, I’m happy with the result so the board is
ready to be returned.

Hope this board will survive for years but as a piece of mind,
the owner has the option to go for the new board if
this one fails in the near future.

Thank you for letting me repairing this board and using my service.
As this board lost the power completely and nothing happened by
pressing any of the buttons, I hope the owner can enjoy his A/C again
especially, removing the humidity out of the cabin is important for the
fast approaching winter season.

Regards,
Kaz
