Health Check 03

Rate this Entry

First time working on this NSX so started with the Health Check.

Before going out for the test driving session, the owner mentioned that he saw
CEL in the past and wanted me to take a look at it.
It was CEL #2 so Rear bank O2 sensor.
Looked like it was replaced in the past but decided to reset the ECU, re-learnt the
study coefficient before the test driving session.

So far, no CEL but will keep eye on this as it is not my standard procedure to
carry out 70mph cruising mode for the test driving session as part of the Health Check
so may trigger the CEL later.

Very healthy AT box with smooth shifting.
Engine also felt tight and strong but understandable with such low mileage.

Activated the ABS and that was a bad idea.
The owner told me that he never exercised the ABS and because of this,
the solenoids were all stuck.
As soon as I activated them, the pump started running forever.
It stopped before triggering the ABS warning light but not nice driving such
a beautiful car with that loud squeaking noise inside the village.

Later, I found that the ABS pump was already replaced in the past.

Also, as seen on many NSX, there were so much air in the ABS system that
the fluid managed to overflow from the ABS reservoir.

From the way the paint bubbled up at the edge of the front anti-roll bar bush,
it was doing this for quite some time.

Will be flushing the ABS later and I just hope we caught the leaky solenoid issue in time
so that we don’t have to OH the ABS.

While the idle rpm was very steady, it was not consistent every time after the
TH pedal was released.
It was at 850rpm then it showed 750rpm at the roundabout and then another time,
it was sitting at 800rpm.

Also, from time to time, when the A/C compressor was engaged or suddenly lifted
the TH pedal, there was significant dip in rpm before getting back to its normal idle rpm.

There was trace of someone tampered with the idle adjust screw and although the
PCV valve was not super dirty, I think the TH body is quite dirty.
As I need to drain the coolant and replacing all of the coolant hoses,
I may just take off the TH body and wash it.

Missing several bolts from the TB cover.
Very common on many NSX in the world.
