Just bought an NSX

Hey guys, how's it going? I've just bought an 91 auto NSX - just wondering if any of you guys can shed some lights on your preferred choice of garages for servicing, tuning and parts?

Also, I am considering of making minor alterations such as air filter, maybe bigger air intake ducts and maybe even a chip. Would you guys recommend any modifications?

Hi Vic,

Have a good old mooch around nsxprime.com. It's US based but will give you heaps of info around upgrades parts and a the few weak points the NSX has.

I personally would not bother trying to mod the NSX. Honda made a very good job of the package. There are limited things you can do do get more power without specding serious money.

Some of the others put on the later wheel sizes ie 16/17 rather than the early 15/16 combo, but choose the wheels carefully as the offsets are unusual and need to be maintained.

I have an auto myself and find it a little lacking in torque at certain points in the rev range, mainly due to loosing the extra gear the manual has.

I get mine serviced by one of the Honda main dealers (Marshall in Reading) only 1/2 doz honda dealers are approved or have the experience with these Car 's. I don't know of any non franchised specialists, the NSX is to rare.

Yeah, bigger wheels and tyres have already been fitted (17/18) - tho i am still experimenting the 'correct' tyre pressure for them. Presumably, you've fitted the 16/17 tyres on already? What sort of pressure do you use?

I am still getting to grips with the auto box. Living in central london, it does make journeys easier, tho there are times when you have less control than having a manual. As you quite rightly pointed out - the longer gear ratio does reduce the torque and accelaration. but hey, it's still pretty awesome.

Hi,

As far as mods go, for what you're considering don't bother. Dyno plots show that the standard air filter gives best results over all the rev range. Some may produce a better peak at one rpm, but not by much. For the cost of one, and the risk of it not filtering properly, it's not worth it.

I had a superchip (for a while). Didn't make the slightest bit of difference in my opinion. The engines in the auto are different to the manual. The torque curve is different, and suits the gearbox. A chip for a manual, may not be suitable for the auto anyway.

What do want to do with the car? Mod for looks or performance? If you are tracking the car, then upgrading the brake pads, and maybe stiffer anto roll bars will be a good start. Brakes are strong but they need cooling, so big air deflectors are great.

Just get make sure you get quality brake pads, don't be tempted by crap like EBC and the like.

I was thinking of mods for performance purpose, therefore breaks are on my list of upgrades.

Also, I am thinking of doing track days - in your opinion, which track is suitable for the nsx?

Also, we're thinking of driving down to Le Mans - think is in May, if any of you guys are interested.

im new to the site also(just joined in fact).i have been a member of nsx prime for about a year now and there is a vast amount of info available on that site.
regarding upgrading parts for the NSX then i recomend www.scienceofspeed.com .theyare a good site for pretty much anything you need for the NSX

Re: Tracks for the NSX. I find that a track that is fairly big, gets the best results. Something like Silverstone, or Bedford Autodrome. Anything will be fun, but the smaller tracks suit Elises too much for my liking! I also stick to tracks with good runoff, just in case.
