Thread: I want an NSX

    Now I have your attention!!!
    I live in Gloucestershire and wantan NSX pref a Manual and pref a Targa- I want to use as a Sunday car but it will be a keeper.
    I have cash to spend and think this may be the right time to invest in the beuty that is NSX
    Trouble is i heard from an aqauinatce that although they are great if you need any bits for them its 1- very expensive and 2 hard to get hold of.
    I would apreciate some factual advise Ive been looking on here for a bit andseen a few that interest me but need to get this problem out of my head about maintenance and repairs- does anyone know someone in Gloucestershire or surrounding counties who know about these cars.
    Any help would be greatly apreciated i forgot to mention price well I want to spend about 15-17k but if push came to shove I could go to 22k
    Does anyone know about the cat c one on the sales section??

    15-17 is the sort of price you will pay for an early car in moderate/good condition. Targas at that price would likely have an issue of some kind.

    Parts supply from Honda UK is generally quite expensive, however specialists exist here and abroad, that offer a variety of prices and quality of service.

    This difficulty and cost should be weighed against the long term cost of ownership, and comparison with rivals. Do you imagine parts and service for a Ferrari 348 will be cheaper? After depreciation is taken into account is a leggy and battered Cayman S a better bet? These cars were built by the cream of Honda's workforce, in a factory especially built for the task, out of aluminium. Relatively few changes were made over the 14 years the NSX was in production because they largely got it right the first time.

    Early cars must be pretty close the bottom of the depreciation curve. The limited supply of cars, and the type of buyer they attract mean that good cars will hold their value. As you will so often hear with old performance cars; buy on condition, and buy the best you can afford. If you can live with the lower powered auto these can offer good value.

    Hi & Welcome,

    There are 2 or 3 Targa's on Pistonheads at present and all near or at the top end of your budget.

    As sassthathoopie says, but on condition/history and the best you can afford.

    If its a Sunday fun (hence low mileage/usage) I would look very closely at Grahams car http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/758197.htm also advertised on the forum as he is a member here. Recently had a lot of work completed that means you should have little to worry about.

    If its a keeper then the option of a repaired car may appeal as you can afford a later car for your budget. May steer clear, but to be honest, if you can satisfy yourself that the work has been done properly, you know at the outset what you are buying, then I see no reason to consider this type of car.

    If you want something individual, theres a choice of two at present. The black coupe advertised here http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/testvb/vbclas...php?do=ad&id=9 and if you search the forum you will find all you need/want to know. The other is the targa on P'heads and previousy owned by Plans motorsport.

    Good luck in the hunt, it can take time to find 'your' NSX, but it will be worth the wait.

    I will echo the above sentiments, but regarding a cat c, it is a matter to take up with your head and your heart as well.

    From being on this forum for quite a few years, the best advice I would give is to buy the car on condition and not age / price, Cat C/D etc.

    If an NSX goes wrong it can be very costly to put right, mine I would say has cost less than £2k in servicing and parts over the last 25k miles and 4 years which has included a cambelt change.

    If a Targa is what you want then just be patient, one will come along in the right spec and condition for you, the only thing might be the price. I don't know of any of the Targa's that are for sale at the moment so couldn't comment directly. However the one on pistonheads looks like a nice car.
