Thread: Trolley jack suitable for NSX?

  1. #1

Default Trolley jack suitable for NSX?

Could somebody tell me what minimum 'saddle height' I need to look for on a trolley jack to use on the NSX please?

If anyone has any recommendations for make / model that would be especially useful.

    Many thanks

    Hi Ian,

Excuse my ignorance but I've never riden my trolley jack ....... I have two jacks, a full size main dealer that has a lifting 'plate' of arouns 5" diameter and then a smaller Halfrauds job at around 2"

Both work well and I always cover the axle stands with old cloth to protet th underside of the chassis

Yes...this saddle height thing is new to me as well.

Apparently it is the nimimum height the lifting plate can be lowered too - with the NSX being a relatively low car, I want to make sure the jack will lower suffiuciently to get underneath - there is, you will no doubt be thrilled and excited to know, a wide range of 'minimum' saddle hights out there!!!

Correct WhyOne, saddle height = minimum lift height i.e. how low will it go

To jack an NSX under the sills you need a saddle height of less than 4 inches.

I picked up and ARCAN XL 35 from Costco. It has a min saddle heigh of 3 1/2 inches and is rated at 3 1/2 ton lift capacity with quick lift function. It weighs a, figurative, ton and cost about £65 after adding the VAT.

It's great, if rather heavy. Here's a pic...

I have a 2 ton cheap jack from Motorland or MotorWorld as its call now, they are a Northern based. The jack just about squeezes under the NSX! I do fancy one of the fancy light weight alu thingy for low ride cars with a motorsport theme. It has rubber pad so won't hurt your car underneath bits. Not sure of the name, but they are a Trade mechanic ad on back of normal mag, something Mart? Think they are around 70/80 squids me thinks?

I had that one a while ago, bought a new one from costco recently, aluminium for around the same price with a lower saddle height.

    Will try and find details.

The one they currently do is £90 inc VAT and a 2-tonne rating, but it's been recommended to me too...and yes, when I lifted it (badly) by one hand in the shop I nearly put my back out - clearly Arcan use the same extra-heavy aluminium as Jaguar do!

    You revived the thread Clive!

I've had the SGS trolley jack and 4 of their axle stands for a couple of years. They are OK but the rubber pad is not much good and the piston return spring is a bit sticky on mine - does not return fully after each pump. Not been too bothered about sorting it out though as it doesn't bother me too much. Got a good deal on the whole package online.

I bought the 1.5 ton racing trolley jack.
