Thread: Type R dash conversion

  1. #1

    Default Type R dash conversion

Thought I'd share some photo's of a little project I've been working on recently.

IMO, an improvement on the std dash, updating the interior but in keeping with my OEM look/feel.

The hardest part during removal was the knee pad trim (thanx Ary for you advice!!) and then the intricate job of removing the trim rings for painting. These are particularly thin plastic.

Rebuilding it layer by layer was very satisfying as the finished item began to emerge. Its nice to read, looks as good at night and extremely satisfying to know that I did it.

    regards

    Paul

I'm sure that looks great on an otherwise fairly plain interior, whilst still being a subtle mod. I'm tempted to do something like this myself. where do you get the bits from?

Is that Vance's old replica kit from Popup Design in japan?

He got an original NSX-R gauge cluster instead.

Not sure who was the seller

Do the shift lights working or is it only part of the top side display?

I actually recieved a new set , he sold his old set to an NSXer on Prime. He's now installed the OEM kph set but I believe is still trying to get the lights to work like yours

It would be good to have the lights working but that is too complex for me to do

well, he wanna go with the JDM NSX-R ECU.

My system is different, but with the same result and free programmable in 100 rpm steps.
But I'm still working on some details.
The NSX-R gauge cluster kit is installed at my ITR.

BTW....newer saw red tooth picks before....maybe there is a market to sale them

I understand this to be for 2 reason,
1- to allow use of the OEM NSX-R guage set and to have the lights working
2- the ECU delivers an improved throttle response

If your replica rpm face plate is transparent at the green and red point, you also can adapt shift lights.

Maybe you have seen that we are working on a full programmable shift light, where all parameters can be adjusted. (The NSX-R dont have this and IMO the shift points are adjusted too low)
There is a chance to adjust the shift point in 100 rpm steps, there is an option to
adjust the green light from 0 - 600 rpm lower and there is a thumb wheel at the microprocessor to adjust the blinking speed.

    1. you have to know that also the complete NSX-R harness is different and the NSX-R harness doesnt not work at LHD cars.

    2. Thats a fine difference to standard NSX's, yes.
But an older car with intake, exhaust and mod. ECU can cover this quite good.
I personally didnt noticed a significant difference and there is no need for me to install that system (I have a complete DBW system in stock)
I installed the 3.2 R engine with my old BB throttle body and Mugen ECU.

Are these gauge overlays still available anywhere? What about the yellow needles?
