Thread: Low mileage early NSX for auction

Default Low mileage early NSX for auction

    The car looks excellent:

There is an 'interesting' note in the description:

"A further bill on file is included from Blade Honda for a staggering £9,424 detailing a replacement factory Alpine stereo unit and replacement digital climate control unit in Nov 2018 at 11,480 miles which must have made the eyebrows raise a little!"

Ignoring the Alpine reference, which must be a typo as there is clearly a Bose head-unit in the car, how is an invoice of nearly £10k achievable for these two components?

"If you want to argue that The Best Car in the World is a supercar, go ahead. But there is only one that makes the grade. Only one that's built properly.
    Gordon Murray knows.
    Rowan Atkinson knows.
    It's the Honda NSX."

Not related to the advertised car but for the knowledge base.....

The pre-amp stage head unit is actually from Alpine.

Bose did the sound tuning (hence, the Bose sound system in the brochure) including the design of the speaker box, AMP, etc.

They were very reluctant to have the bass/treble control on the head unit over their sound tuning that they even requested to remove it.

Outside of Japan, the sticker at the bottom lid, the logo 'Alpine' was replaced with 'Honda' or 'Acura'.

All of them are made in Japan.

In the link, I can see that the audio head unit in question is a later spec European model.

I don't know the latest price in Japan for the European model but even for the JDM one,
the new one would cost more than GBP2,000 by the time delivered to UK despite the stronger GBP exchange rate.

If ordered through European Honda dealers, they are listing it at GBP4,300 - 7,300....

If all 3 x speaker boxes (inc. AMP and the speaker) were replaced at the same time, the cost would be....

For the A/C CCU, there are almost no markings on the dials/buttons on the display.

Probably replaced with the new one as Honda doesn't sell these dial/button separately, unlike the audio head unit.

Together with the circuit board, it will be well into GBP1,000+ from Japan.

If ordered through European dealers, probably around GBP2,500 - 3,000.

So, depending on from where they were sourced and exactly what were ordered, not surprised to see the GBP10K bill.

Could have given it a good clean and dust inside. And 2 services in one year, with less than 12k on the clock!
Less than £700 for a cambelt service!

Considering the idiot-low clickbait estimate. It will be interesting to see how much this car makes. It’s good to see UK sellers ‘generally’ gauging their prices on the current JDM. Good cars are getting scarcer, parts are getting more expensive and it appears that people are finally valuing what they have.
The EU market on the other hand is a mystery to me; there are two early cars with similar mileage, which are £30k different.
If I were buying again. I think I would be seeking out the 60-80k mile early cars. They represent the best value right now.

Did I read the info right for that car; do they really charge 12% commission?!??! I thought the actual dealer 8.4% was steep! Bringing me to the cost of selling a car. Does it seem reasonable to charge more commission for selling a more expensive car? When we sold our house through Purple bricks nearly four years back. The other estate agents wanted 1.5-2%. So £1500-£2k per 100,000. I was told that by the time they had deducted wages, premises and marketing costs. They actually lost money on the lower value properties they sold. Now I’m in sales and you have to make something on everything. Even the loss leader is costed. So with the advent of companies like Purple bricks, it kind of made the traditional model semi obsolete.
Anyway, in relation to cars. It seems a little unfair to charge £8K for a £100k sale and £800 for a £10k sale. When the government do this, we call it a socialist tax on the rich. I know that some sellers don’t want the hassle and many buyers want finance. And the dealer needs to make some kind of bottom line percentage. So my question is. As a term of business, Do we think it’s fair or ethical to charge such a significant amount more, to sell what is essentially a more expensive box on wheels.

So what do we think this car will make? I’m going for complete lowball disaster or high 80’s.
Limited I think by the unforgivable commission. Otherwise 90+.
However, not seen the car, so not 100% sure on condition. Assuming collector grade.
