Thread: Nsx engine specialists

    Default Nsx engine specialists

Hi I need to have my NSX engine looked at as it's been unused for a while and it is making unsettling noises that are not the normal. I suspect that something has broken inside. The engine will need to come out at least. Who can help with this sort of work please? Has anybody had any experience of reputable outfits who could undertake investigative and repair work. I am slightly uncomfortable that there appears to be no one (or at least very few) in the UK who are specialised in this car. It is essential that the car is repaired properly. Thanks for any advice. PM if necessary please.

    Hi bernev

This question keeps coming up and you have answered your own question, "very few".

I will trot out the same answer as other past posts, with some caveats:-

Kaz, but probably booked for next 3 years.

Local Honda dealer, but might not want to touch it.

Hendon Honda, Chiswick Honda, Orpington Honda, Norton Way Honda. These are all Honda dealers that I know, that do or have looked after NSX’s and may have a mechanic who still has experience with NSX engines.

Both TDi South and North have looked after race/track/modified NSX’s, I've only used TDi South for my Civic.

Torque – GT in Devon. I have no experience of them when it comes to service, however they seem to be an honest bunch.

Litchfield motors, no experience but are fairly famous.

Plans performance, they have a mixed reputation on here. I last used them about 10 years ago for some small works and had no complaints.

Torque GT have had the engine out of my car before. They aren’t dedicated NSX specialists (they deal with all types of JDM imports), and they don’t have Kaz’s depth of knowledge and expertise (who does?), but they are good guys and they are very experienced with 90s Hondas in general. I’d certainly trust them to investigate, and I believe general engine build work is within their capability.

If your engine does turn out to have suffered a major failure, it may be simpler/cheaper to replace the whole unit rather than strip and rebuild. Christian at ATR in Austria may have some spare used motors in stock.

Torque did my last cambelt. I think they’re a good bet.

I've used Stratford Honda for over a decade with mine - they've had the engine out twice doing refurb work/cambelts/etc. And they've done a fair bit of work on another one too. So they know the car, and I trust them - if anything went wrong with mine they'd be my first call. But I'd suggest they're not as familiar as Kaz and probably not as familiar as Torque GT, either.

Blue '08 FD2 CTR - big, ITR-sized shoes to fill...
Yellow '96 NSX 3.0 - oh was it worth the wait!
Black '99 ITR - well, I had to have another one, the first was so much fun. Miss this one even more than #1...
Blue '03 S2000 - SOLD, flawed but fun
Blue '04 Focus TDCi Sport - SOLD, very good fun for a diesel!
Black '00 ITR - SOLD, still missed
Red '98 Civic VTi - SOLD, probably still bombproof
