    Default Anyone using the NSX as a daily driver?

    As per the title - I am wondering who is using their NSX as a daily (or at least sharing duties with another daily)?

    As I plan the recommissioning of my '93 manual coupe, and wondering about driving it more often, I am not sure I'd drive it daily (7 mile commute). The last cars I have used daily were Lexus LS400, RX400, LS400. For my daily drive and the usual congestion coming back after the CV19 lockdown, a manual car will be more involving, but not in a good way! Maybe a manual NSX is more of a 'high days and holidays' car?

    In another thread here, we briefly touched on automatic NSXs, and I suppose they would be more suitable for me as a daily.

    During the summer month I use my NSX daily, split with the S2000. I am an auto convert & my normal choice of daily would be auto but I don't mind the manual cars, even now, after Lockdown with the traffic back to normal, I enjoy the manual cars, even when stuck in a traffic queue. My commute is 25 miles each way, across both A roads & Motorways, so the cars get a good workout.

    That's good, and perhaps with 25 miles you can detour if you feel like a drive. Cambridge is not a car-friendly city. With my commute being 2 miles of suburban 30mph congestion and then 5 miles of busy 40-50mph A-road, I can't get excited by gear changes!

    An auto gearbox might mean I drive an NSX more than I would drive my manual version, and as Kaz has said many times, an NSX that's not driven regularly can develop problems.

    I know! Out of interest, how many miles a year do you do?

    The only downside I can see from daily use is having to park in the distant spots at car parks (to avoid parking dings from other cars' doors in the NSX's aluminium body panels). And some running costs wouldn't be any higher - cambelts still have t be changed at 6-yearly intervals, whether you've done 60,000 miles or 6,000. Plus, more miles = more fun, more often.

    Something to consider once I've recommissioned K2NSX.

    About 6-7k miles a year, just about put 100k on it in my ownership.... And quite often it has to park where there is a space available around these parts, not often the luxury of parking away from the crowd!!!!

    Winter wheels/tyres going on soon

    The only real concession to daily driving is setting the rear alignment straight, rather than the tyre scrubbing OEM toe in... New rear tyres every year was a pain....

    Wow - good stuff. Doubt that there are many UK NSXers putting on that many miles a year. And that's useful to know on the rear toe-in.

    On NSX Prime, probably 3+ years ago, there was an owner who started a post about problems with the NSX clutch and its dismally short life span. I think he was on something like his 3rd or 4th clutch in a relatively short period of time, I recall that he initially attributed the problem to the mechanics (a Porsche service center I think) doing the installation and set up. After a couple of posts it turned out he was in India, I think Mumbai. Not likely clutch friendly traffic conditions, especially if you adopt the spin it fast and slip the clutch for standing starts approach to driving.

    Someone previously had noted the abundance of automatic transmission equipped NSXs in Japan. Having been to Tokyo and environs 30+ years ago I expect that traffic has not improved and parts of Tokyo are hilly. An automatic would be a sensible alternative to a regular diet of clutch replacements. The automatic also has the advantage that you don't have to worry about the stupid clutch interlock switch stopper button dropping out and leaving you stranded.

    My NSX gets regular use; but, reserved for lighter traffic hours when there is less of the forward - stop - forward - stop stuff. Aside from clutch wear it just gets tedious after a while and the OEM dual mass flywheel clutch assembly is just way too expensive to be chewing through them on even an regular basis. I also have an Audi A4 Allroad and its 7speed DCT handles traffic just fine and gets much better fuel economy to boot.

    That's another perspective to consider. And the service docs for K2NSX show that even NSX specialists sometimes need two attempts to get a clutch installation right.

    I've got some stuff to clear out before I get my manual NSX ready, but maybe the many miles I've driven in the LS400 auto has spoiled me? But I really want to drive the NSX more often.

    Is the F-matic a smarter gearbox, or just a more complex way to control the same auto gearbox?

    As far as I am aware it's basically the same box just a bit more Nintendo in the controls
