Thread: Type R suspension rebuildable?

    Default Type R suspension rebuildable?

Hi Guys, been quiet for a while with the car off road for a long time. Hope everyone is well.
I jacked the car up today on one side and the opposite side rear shock has started leaking oil now.
My car has a development stage Type R Showa suspension from Detlef in Germany.
Question is, can the shock be rebuilt and by who? Or, is that it for the suspension. I don't suppose anyone sells Type R NA1 suspension anymore?
Real big shame as I really like the suspension.

    Hi Mo,

I would start with Detlef in the absence os any local responses, he still trades ans was advertising suspension not that long ago ...

Good to hear from you, take care, Paul

Hi Paul, thanks for the reply. I wasn't aware Detlef was still around. I will try to pm him. Thinking of joining the club and trying to get back into the NSX.

    Hi SS,
I rarely use the car, still runs a bit dirty and never really been that happy with what was done to it. Still I do the odd track day and apart from the noise issues it's amazing especially with the suspension and brake set up.
At the moment I need to rebuild the Hi Spec front brakes and recon the rear brakes and now it seems I need new suspension too so looks like it's going to be a while before I get the car out again.

    I'm still around....and busy.

Checked that you got a used NSX-R NA2 suspension in year 2004.
The suspension was installed for test reason in Germany (Nordschleife) at the NSX-R NA2 prototype, but this was the final spec for the production car, so no difference.

I have options for a check and repair, but I will need that damper here.

If there is no chance for a repair, I can offer you my brandnew Bilstein/H&R suspension, which can be adjusted to the simular specs........with height adjustment as additional feature.

This is my actual favourite suspension, which saves the future of my NSX suspension.
Its not the standard way like K&W, its refined with simular spring rates like the R suspension,
even the R dampers was send to Bilstein for a perfect read out of parameters.

Hey Detlef, good to hear from and that you have a record of my suspension. That's been a long time, didn't realise how long.
I will see if I can get the shock off and sent to you.
I would prefer a repair if possible.
Thanks for the help and I will be in touch.

Well, before you send it please send me some pictures to my eMail adress.
I'm not sure if I can get an rebuild kit, I have to ask Showa in Japan first.
My engineer from Bilstein can maybe help too.

If not I have to send it to Japan......we will see, bevore spend money.

I have sold over 20 NSX-R suspensions since 2003, but this is the first one with an issue.
