Thread: oem ignition coils discontinued ??

  1. Unhappy oem ignition coils discontinued ??

hi is it true that Honda isn't making ignition coils for the nsx ?mines a 99
if so where can Buy compatible ones and where would be the cheapest place to buy 6 ignition coils please...

I'm not mechanicly minded as you can probably tell so excuse if the questions are a bit ignorant.

I've just been googling and one nsx parts seller said they are rare as hens teeth.

Who did you ask? In the US they can be found here for example: https://www.oemacuraparts.com/v-1999...h-tension-cord
    They are pricey though...

rumour was they were selling them as a party-pack of 6 for the later 3 terminal style units (post 1996 obd2 cars) , for silly cheap, obviously i can't find the thread on nsxprime, just to be awkward....

if you don't mind drifting from oem for such things, rockauto has a selection....

Another option - try Adnan at A.S. Motorsport. He makes his own upgrade kit. http://as-motorsport.com/site/en/cat...e=3&sort=price

evolved from this thread on nsxprime....
    http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/showth...osch-cop-coils

which in turn evolved into 'operator' offering the kit...
    http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/showth...6-COP-COIL-set

i'm guessing adnan made a tweak or 2 as operators kit didn't work with oem ecu.... only aftermarket ecu's where the coil timing could be tweaked in the software.....

thanks guys appreciate all the advice ..are there any other parts guys recommended .
should I replace all the coils as they have never been changed.

Also 2 of my coils are extremely rusty would the car drive with out causing damage to the engine if all of them were not functioning 100%.

I'd start with the 3 rear ones as they're prone to fail. The front ones don't get water under normal conditions.

Do you think you can DIY or do you let a mechanic do it for you? If DIY you can pull the connector from the coil. If the engine runs rougher you have a good coil. If no chance = bad coil.

thanks will try each one ..im sure could manage some basic diy I can follow instructions quite easily ...trained by the misses.

for the £150ish price of the set from the second ebay listing, i'd just change all 6 and be done with it, keeping the rust free old ones on the shelf

... and be glad i haven't got the 2 terminal early ones that are pretty much that price each OEM!!!
