I've been told by my importer that the NSX has excessive play in the Power steering rack.

Depending on where the play is, it might be repairable. I won't promise it would be straightforward - few places over here specialise in that sort of thing and the more common route is to send the rack to the states where refurbs are more common - but it can be done. IIRC my NSX had some play in the rack corrected a while back, but I don't recall all the details.
However, there's also an EPS steering rack for sale in the "For Sale" forum - take a look.
the most complete repair in USA is via D1guy... http://www.nsxprime.com/forum/showth...NSXs-By-D1-Guy .... http://nsxrackrepair.com/
Kaz has mentioned a Japanese vendor (afraid i can't remember the name) with the correct test equipment/jig and not sure on the pricings (so not a whole lot of help either way!)
so there you have it, shiny new from Honda (sit down before they tell you the price) D1guy in the US of A, again, be seated, and the Land of the Rising Sun, i suspect seating is also required, but i think I remember it was more reasonable !

Are you buying the car from the importer directly including taxes etc or are they simply handling the shipping of a car you've already purchased and registering and MOT'ing for you? If its the first scenario there aren't they responsible?
There are at least two different flavours of the power steering rack... So makes sure you can get the correct one if replacing. Externally I think they all look the same but certain sensors were moved between the rack and the control ECU.
Or convert it to manual, there are a couple on eBay including one from Dr. Mikey.
Good luck if you end up pulling yours apart yourself, let's hope you don't end up with an unusable core. The population of EPS racks could do without losing one, we're all going to need them at some point.

Its been done a few times. Just unplug the EPS unit and you shouldnt get any dash lights. If you do you can just remove the EPS bulb from the cluster
Also its a cheapish option to get your car on the road whilst you consider options on getting your rack fixed (as I know the waiting time is months)
