    Default Factory Refresh

According to the latest Pistonheads Flemke, is this your McLaren? thread, our NSX and McLaren owning carnoisseur is sending his Type R back to the factory for a refresh.
I wonder what he is deciding to have done from the menu?
How far will he go? Full strip down and repaint?

So if I have this right it's approx £1000 just for them to have a look at it?

“I find myself irresistibly attracted to cars that nobody else buys. The NSX is a classic of the genre because nobody buys it and yet it’s a fantastic car. It’s got a wonderful compactness and simplicity and unpretentiousness to it. Honda rudely continues to make them whether we like it or not, even though there can be no commercial logic in doing so — I thoroughly admire that.” Rowan Atkinson

I've been to the NSX refresh factory in Tochigi

    They dont mess about

Only new items to replace old items. No "refurbishing"

    If I had a Type R, it's where I'd send it.

It's an impressive committment to the marque.

I'm VERY temted to send my car. Do we think if a few of us sent our cars at the same time we could save on shipping costs?

Would send it a mounth or 2 before NSX FIESTA then fly out and do NSX FIESTA in the car before shipping it back to the UK.

    Paul,

That is a good idea having been to the fiesta in 2015 it would be a great experience. I should get some firm figures tomorrow but here are some approximate costs. It will be a little cheaper for 2 cars but the UK shipper has said they will not put more than 2 cars in a 40 ft container.

Single car 20 ft container £7,000 return
Two cars 40 ft container £5,500 return both prices exclude delivery to and from port to Tochigi factory but the UK shipper can deal with this via their Japan office.

The bad news is 10% import duty and VAT will be due on the invoice value of all transportation costs and work done in Japan. So very roughly if the cost of refresh work was £20k and the shipping was for the single car option £7k the total will be around £35k or about £33k is cars are sent in pairs. So I guess the saving would fund the trip to the Fiesta.

Mike can you request to keep the old parts (which I'm sure would still be serviceable) or do Honda keep them, although thinking about it if you're that inclined and wealthy enough to have this refresh in the first place why would you want them back, except maybe to sell to you that is.
