had an unexpected day off today, and with the weather being on side too, i thought i'd do a bit of pre-emptive maintenance and cleanup as a bonus too.... the bonnet was opened, and it was a case of take off a rusty bracket, give it a good wire brushing, bake on a bit of paint, and bolt it back in! that was the mission statement, and off i went!

first was the cruise control side of things.... bracket before

i separated the base plate from the cruise control, derusted and repainted. all back together with some pretty stainless washers

it would be rude not to tidy up the spare wheel bracket....
    the usual look

after 10 mins with a scotch pad thing on the bench grinder!

(i know the top rubber is missing, i made one up when it was refitted with some sticky-backed high density foam)

such a nice satin/brushed finish it would be impolite to do the ABS guard too....

all done, re-did the radiator mounts too... now satin and black!

while i was there, i gave all the unions on the brakes/abs unit a blast with Gibbs lubricant, magic elixir/snake oil metal preserver! (as were the bare aluminium spare wheel bracket and ABS guard)

    ta,

while i was chasing a small oil leak (cam plugs are dry, no obvious leaks from the cam cover, dry all the way round, i think its the rear vtec solenoid seal, the one between the solenoid and vtec body and the only one that hasn't been replaced!) it gave easier access to remove the vacuum lines and a bit of plumbing.... of course these we stripped and repainted as they were chipped! tidied up the cross brace at the same time!

this will have to come out again once the seals arrive from rock auto (currently en route in Memphis!).... a pair of vtec body and solenoid seals are listed at £90.80 from Lings, rock auto have all 4 for £38.08 delivered, just search their site on the oem number!!

The underbonnet brackets ... one of the jobs I did recently and well worth the effort ...

I have currently got the front of my car in pieces to clean up the brackets. Does anybody know if the rubbers for the spare wheel holder are still available from Honda? One of my side ones and the top one are missing.

Yep...You may want to search for your specific year model but doubt there were any changes.
