now the hotrod is basically all back together with all the major mods done, time for some NSX updates.....

ball joints! now the MOT a couple of months ago showed up a ball joint dust cover/boot/gaiter giving up the ghost (26 years on a car will do that with rubber!) so it was time to dig out my spare uprights with their shiny new 'rare'parts' ball joints fitted..... after a couple of false starts they were changed over the course of a weekend.... see the full story here http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/showthread.ph...on-t-take-long

also replaced the tired steering rack with a not-so tired one......

on my drive to work each morning there's a particular bit of road i swing wide to avoid as the surface makes a knock from the suspension..... today i drove over it with the new setup... no knock, so an improvement there!

the steering, when it was all put together was heavier than before, not surprising as there's 4 tight ball joints, rather than the floppy ones of before, but glad to say it seems to be improving now it's had some use

when i get a chance i might have a look in the old rack, see what is worn/can be tweaked!

    read about it here.... http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/showthread.ph...into-the-deep!

chasing a recently developed idle issue, which also might be the cause of the car having a struggle through the emissions part of the MOT recently, when it's usually VERY good..... http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/showthread.ph...-unstable-idle

and also still chasing the intermittent gearbox issue... still!!!! http://www.nsxcb.co.uk/showthread.ph...-gearbox-issue

from another angle they look like this....

so i found a set on croooober at a reasonable price and duly ordered them! just to be awkward, and 'cos i'm me, i wanted to lose the reversing light section, i wanted a continuous red bar, rather than the white of the reserving light areas breaking the flow.... so a couple of pieces of red, and tint film were pressed into action, the tint film darkening the red a little too far, but better than a bright red section!

its not such a dark step in the real world!

the reversing lights hidden in drl ledstrips above the number plate, subtle like!

and finally got my new (new to me) wheels on...... Work Meister S2R 8x17, and 10x18!!!

as i'm rapidly approaching 160k on the odometer, it was due an oil change... i was trying to delay it until i did the aircon pump replacement too, as i wanted to do the sump gasket (flagged up at the last MOT), so after a bit of pondering decided to do the gasket and oil change.... as i'd worked out , that with the rubber sump gasket, i should be able to manoeuver it into place without too much hassle.....

great plans and all that! car up on ramps, sump unbolted, there's not enough room between the torque converter and sump to get the gasket through the gap!!!! so sump has to come off....

... so front header has to come off....

.... so front engine mount cross member has to come off...

.... to chassis U brace has to come off...

... so headlight covers have to come off....

(not really, just checking you are paying attention!)

so what was going to be about an hour job, turned into 4 1/2! fortunately i'd replaced the cat shield fixings with stainless bolts and brass nuts, so at least i didn't have to struggle getting them apart!!!

    in other news....

think i've finally sussed the damp issue that has plagued me since day 1, the typical symptom being the flock door edging strip being wet at the bottom where the sill cover trim bit is (the other end to the petrol door release) tracked down to the upper rubber body seal not directing the water away to where it should... a close inspection to work out just what was supposed to be happening, and some non setting gutter sealer, and an extensive test with the torrential rain monday and all is well

my other issue, that i'm not going to mention, because last time i jinxed it, seems to be behaving at the moment with the substitution of shielded signal cabling, replacement engine ecu and tweaking the TPS baseline voltage up a tad.... time will tell, been there before!!!

so all in all, happy with the car again!

New wheels suit the car Jonathan ... have you considered dropping to take away the 4x4 look ..?

I have enough issues with speed ramps and drives as it is, without lowering it too, and I'm not going to the expense of airlift cup kits!!!! If anything I am considering putting the original springs back in as the replacement seem a little softer.....

Forgot to mention.... I found no gunge, sludge or bits in the sump, so that's encouraging
