Yeah I have though about putting the OEM box back in, but I quite like the induction sound! I though it was quite a neat install and I also have a direct cold air feed from the side vent going into the filter. I'm going to take the car to a rolling road some day soon to see what its putting out, and will swap between both filter system for comparison figures. I know CAI systems don't really do anything unless your running allot more upgrades.
Hi, Sudesh.
Another great work with lovely taste.
Also, I always enjoy the size and quality of your photos.
I believe your NSX is JDM spec like mine so I would like to share some of the experience from the dyno and rolling road regarding this topic.
Please note that these are based on JDM spec so some of the facts here could be different story on your NSX depending on the country model.
JDM NSX has different mapping compared to other country models.
Due to the stability of fuel spec within Japan, the ECU data will allow us to generate 280PS power and 30.0Kgm torque using high octane fuel for NA1 (3.0L) MT model. Although the official released figure for NA2 is the same as 280PS power (because of gentlemen's agreement within Japan at that time) and slightly increased torque figure of 31.0Kgm, it’s a different story for NA2 on the dyno…. Quite big difference compared to NA1...
All of the NA1 NSX that I measured as well as at my friend’s dyno showed similar power figure depending on several conditions such as weather and so on (as you know). It’s built by Honda.
For JDM NA1, unless you have modified the engine and the mapping, you will find very little gain by changing the parts around the intake box area such as air filter, box, duct. For some of them, you actually loose some torque at lower rpm band.
You can gain noticeable power by changing the header and/or exhaust but even after this modification, the effect of replacing parts around intake box area won’t have big changes on JDM NA1. A few gains were noticed on repeated measurement on the same day but not consistent.
While the car is moving above normal driving speed, the air temperature around the airbox area inside the engine bay is not that high at all. So, you won’t loose power due to the concern over the high intake air temperature above normal driving speed.
I also have experience and some data for using OEM CATS/Exhaust as well but I’ll touch on these on another occasion.
Again, above info is only for JDM NA1 MT standard model and it’s a different story for NA2 owners and it could be different for non-JDM owners as well.
Interesting...
Regards,
Kaz
Been working away on another refresh on a uk car.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1233.jpg
After doing some initial testing of the car as it stood I noticed the radio volume knob was not seated correctly and had quite a bit of movement, so I removed the knob for inspection
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1310.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1311.jpg
With it removed I could visually see the free play, so I removed the the front plate of the radio and found the volume knob retaining nut, had shifted up the thread and was causing the problem.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1313.jpg
I tightened up the nut, put the unit back together and all is now as it should be.
any more pics bud of the work you put into this car?
how are things progressing with her?
Done the usual check of cabin Aspirator fan/sensor, and as always was slightly clogged up
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1305.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1307.jpg
As always this was cleaned down and greased and working perfectly now with no annoying ticking noise.
the one in my car must be really bad mate, i can hear it trying to whizz round and stuff .. does not sound healthy at all ...
after a few good miles on the car, starting to notice a couple of things, hopefully nothing too sinister but i will be glad to get her up to you soon ... think she needs some of your TLC
I noticed the owner had bought one of the real nappa gear gaiters I had made up with a company in the UK, very nice finish and much better than the nasty "leather look" that came on allot of the NSX's. Only thing I wasnt happy with was the cut off point of the cable tie used, over time it would have damaged the leather, very sharp
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1299.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1301.jpg
So I cut it right back and file off and edges
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1302.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1303.jpg
I removed the blower motor for inspection and checked for any build up behind that as, the owner mentioned about a slight moisture problem in the cabin from time to time. I checked the AC drain pipe but it was fine and seated correctly with no blockage and no damp on the floors or door seal damage.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1377.jpg
The blower motor was very clean on this car, and behind was very tidy. I then inspected the drain pipe which runs from the scuttle panel and couldnt believe what I found lol
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1372.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1373.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1374.jpg
One of the heat shields had a rattle and I noticed most of the bolts were done/rusted away.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1453.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1454.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1455.jpg
This is not a major issue as most after market systems dont have these heat shields, the owner is going for a new system shortly so as a temp measure I just decided to keep the OEM shield, drill out the old bolts and put in a temp solution

One problem that did get me on this car was the headlight retract on the passenger side. It had a mind of its own lol
Sometime's it would work fine, then when the car was running it would have a delay, then sometimes it would go perfect on the retract switch and then it wouldnt work lol
So I started clearing out the problems from:
1. Fuses
2. Relays
3. Retract Control Unit
4. Retract Switch
5. Circuit test
6. Wiring loom inspection
So last test was the headlight motor, what I noticed after checking the headlight loom was, when passenger side motor was disconnected the drivers side would work perfect every time on any loop.
At this stage I was certain it was the motor. After removing the old motor and opening it for inspection it was clear it had internal damage, it also had allot of moisture build up
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1286.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1287.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1288.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1290.jpg
So we got a new motor and after install all is working perfect!
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1425.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1427.jpg
The rear boot/trunk I noticed had a slight damp smell, as part of the refresh it was cleared out anyway
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1428.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1429.jpg
With the main centre carpet removed I spotted something that should not be there
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1431.jpg
With rest removed it was clearly visible, there was moisture/water problem
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1432.jpg
It was quite clear the problem was coming from the stem of the mast, it has corroded away and left a hole
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1435.jpg
So I spoke to the owner and what I done was seal up the the hole as best I could. The owner was never fond of the OEM aerial anyway, so I disconnected it, and installed a hidden antenna.
With the boot/trunk lining out, the floor was cleaned up
BEFORE
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1436.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1437.jpg
AFTER
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1439.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1441.jpg
Noticed a build up of stones and grime around the boot seal
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1444.jpg

Incredible read - your attention to detail is amazing!
Good job Sudesh
You have her looking good! really looking forward to picking it up.
Will it be ready tomorrow? (Sunday)

With my old X-1/9, winky headlights was cured by replacing those three diodes under the cover. We used beefier ones, so they wouldn't get fried again!
This car had the spoiler brake light with a bit of DIY cabling
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1257.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1253.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1413.jpg
Also had a split
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1259.jpg
I had a spare OEM socket, so removed the old connectors, repaired the cut in the cable and cable tied the loom to the correct position.
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1412.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1464.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1414.jpg
The lining in the boot was missing the plastic fixing screw so the carpet was sitting a bit loose
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1430.jpg
I fitted new screw and lined the carpet up so its nice and snug
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1465.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1467.jpg
I installed stainless HEL braided lines on the car, then done a full brake bleed as always. Pedal feel is much better, the car already has EBC Yellow stuff pads up front.

Just read this from start to finish.WOW,you must have the patiance of a saint.
I get the feeling that you actualy enjoy doing what you do.I know if i still had an NSX it would be coming over to Ireland for som TLC.
So this is how the interior looked when it arrived
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1240.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1241.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1242.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1244.jpg
Lots of dirt, stones, and other debris on the carpet and metal floor, so all was hoovered up and a decision was made to dye the mats to black
How it loooks now and I havent done the seats and dash yet!
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1472.jpg
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1473.jpg
I also repaired the damage to the centre console, it was sitting out on the passenger side and the immobiliser led was just taped to the dash
So new led and retaining plug was added
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1474.jpg
The dash was actually missing a parts at the base here
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...E/SAM_1264.jpg
Lucky I had one of these spare so fitted that
http://i77.photobucket.com/albums/j7...SAM_1309-1.jpg
Then reseated the console correctly and now the gap has closed
