Eng Refresh Stage 1 + LMA (SoS) – 09

Rate this Entry

Same process for the rear bank.

Cleaning process done, new LMA (from SoS) installed,
rocker arms back in place and ready for the
cam shaft installation.

Torqued the sealing bolt for the rocker shaft
with new washer.

Cleaning the engine and internal parts always
highlights the previous service history.

Something was dropped or sharp tool used at the
front cyl head.
Had to be carefully smoothed out.

The cam shafts showed some minor uneven wear and
markings but nothing deep or serious.
More than 100K miles and still healthy.

Can't link more than 10 photos in one post but the owner
will see extra photos in his web album.

New and old CYL/CRK sensors.
The potting melted away and caused bit of headache
when cleaning the TB back plate.
It will work even without the potting but you never know
when it will fail so best to replace it while the
cam gears are off the engine.

Installed and bolts torqued to the spec.

Inside of the valve covers cleaned to this level.

Normally, I don’t paint this cover
(above intake manifold) but it showed white deposit
and also part of the paint was already cracked and came off
so decided to paint it together with the valve covers.

Especially Rear valve cover looked dull.
Waiting for the paint to dry.

All cam shaft holders and plates washed and
old liquid gasket removed in preparation for
the cam shaft installation.

Still waiting for the delivery of extra parts that
I ordered recently from Japan.

It was the national holiday season in Japan and
Honda normally closes for about 9 – 10days
in order to allow the engineers to inspect the assembly line at
the factory so parts office was also closed.

I hope I can receive the parts by early next week as
it’s so much easier to deal with the exh manifold area
while the engine is out.

I need to focus on another project on Friday so
can only work on this engine until the end of Thursday.

More to follow later.
