Eng Refresh Stage 2 – 17

Rate this Entry

Time for the compression check after the Engine Refresh.

Full data has been forwarded to the owner.

[psi] at about 180 - 190rpm
#1: **3, #2: **0, #3: **1, #4: **8, #5: **0, #6: **3

Really pleased with the data.
Once again, it confirmed the limit and difficulty of standard service.
As reported earlier, the big deviation was caused by the
incorrect valve clearance adjustment carried out in the past.

Unless you have flexible body and small hand,
it is not easy to adjust the clearance and torque the
locking nut especially at the rear bank while the engine is
inside the bay.

On assembly, always apply silicone grease at the
base and tube of the IG coil.

Seems like caught cold so didn’t feel like carrying out the
test driving session on someone’s precious NSX so instead,
dressed the engine bay.

Will complete it after washing the car but already looked quite nice.

Pressure bled the brake system.
This NSX has the latest spec ABS so it will save the time and
fluid by bleeding from the front side instead of
old text book method of starting from the farthest point from
the master cyl.

Wanted to replace the driver side door weatherstrip and
investigate the rattling noise from the ceiling before
going out for the test driving session but
it would be more important to complete
the engine refresh service so decided to do them later.

As it is getting colder, decided to use
OEM tyre pressure setup of F: 33, R: 40psi.

Reset the ECU before going out especially on DBW model and
carried out the general check at low speed.

Happy with the temperature, pressure, O2 sensor feedback and
other parameters.

Engaged VTEC as I replaced the spool valve filter and gasket.

All went fine so time to do 70mph cruising mode long enough to
check the long and short fuel trimmer as well as O2 sensor status.

For OBD2 model, you can use mobile phone app such as
‘Torque’ to do so many things.

Speed mapping on Google map.

Disabled the map overlay for obvious reason but
you can log many parameters for monitoring purpose.
Sampling rate is not fast enough for detailed analysis but
good enough for quick monitoring.

Happy with the result, very powerful engine even without
any intake/exhaust area modification, no error code,
rock steady intake pressure, very smooth/rhythmical engine
and so on.

Will double check that there is no air at the heater core and
radiator bleeder, adjust the coolant and engine oil level
one more time.

Just need to work on the interior and wash the car.

Hope to return the car over the weekend although
light snow is forecasted.....

Almost done.
