Continuing with the Health Check and ABS…….

All four solenoids operated fine so no drama here.

This is the 2nd generation ABS so the reservoir has protruded section.
As it was flushed last year by myself, the reservoir was still clean but
cleaned it again any way.

So, ABS is done and I’ll adjust the fluid level after exercising the ABS several times
in order to activate the ABS pump to pressurise the accumulator to the spec during
the test driving session.

Although there was no leakage at the CL master/slave cyl nor at the CL hose,
the CL reservoir was black.

Keep eye on the fluid level and as soon as you notice any changes,
it’s time to act and replace all three as a set.

As mentioned many times by other owners as well,
if you are using aftermarket wiper blade, be careful.

The passenger side wiper arm will scratch the back of the bonnet.
On this NSX, it was already painted by someone in the past for the very reason.

The famous tail light condensation.

First step is to replace the gasket behind the tail light assy as seen here but
for this level of condensation, you will also need to open up the tail light assy and
evaporate all of the moisture trapped inside the assy.

Last time, we carried out the Engine Refresh Stage 1 service on this engine.
The camshaft cap seal area was still very clean and dry.

Time for the test driving session but the traffic was getting busy so
decided to wash the car first.

And guess what, it started to rain again…..

More to follow later.

    Hi, Kaz.
What is your recommendation for frequency of changing the CL fluid. Any fluid preference? As part of my current work I will need to drain the fluid (which is similar to that in your photo) and replace with new.
    Thank you, Paul

Unlike the brake system, CL fluid doesn’t get so hot.

I think most of the paste like material that you can find at the base of the reservoir is the debris from master/slave cup seals after being scraping against the cyl wall many times.

So, the condition of fluid and master/slave cyl and CL hose depend largely on the driving condition.
Basically, how many times the CL pedal was used.

On my NSX, I just replace the fluid whenever it starts to get darker because for me, it’s an easy task as I can pressure bleed it.

Some owners don’t even bother replacing the fluid until it starts leaking and to be honest, I have never tested whether replacing the fluid will extend the master/slave cyl life or not.

So, I don't have any specific service interval for CL fluid.
It's more important to keep eye on the debris at the base of the reservoir and the fluid level.

If you want and feel comfortable with DIY, for low annual mileage NSX, probably every three years should be enough.

There is no need to use expensive high spec brake fluid here.
Just plain DOT3 or DOT4 is enough.
It’s ‘DOT’ spec so well enough for CL Hyd system on our NSX.
