Although I managed to push back all pistons at the front calipers,
the movement was not consistent.

And as expected, there is no way I can re-use them……

None of the caliper slider pins were seized so it looked like someone serviced them in
the past but not quite.

All four pistons must be replaced.

On the other hand, based on the way the grease was applied,
the rear calipers were overhauled by someone who knew what he was doing.
Even some of the internal parts looked to be replaced with new ones as well.

Briefly cleaned them, packed carefully with extra strong tape and
sent to Bigg Red with extra insurance added.
Should arrive on Friday.

The owner told me that on rare occasion, his ABS was activated even
without touching the brake pedal.

From my past experience, this is one of the phenomenon when you have noisy or
intermittent failure at the wheel speed sensor.

Unfortunately, the classic ABS controller is not powerful enough to detect this issue.

I noticed surface crack at the Front Left sensor so this could be the first one to
fail but who knows….

I know what will happen.... It will fail while the car is at my place.....
Typical......

Someone placed white markings on the IG coils to place them back in their original position.
Good idea.

However, when I removed them, I found that the IG coil at #2 and #5 cyl were
repaired using some sort of tape and glue.

I didn’t feel any misfire during the short test driving session but only drove it at
low rpm range.

The owner also never mentioned anything about misfire and
even with the heat from the engine, the repair work seemed to be fine so
I’ll keep using them.

I have spare used IG coils so if the worst comes, I’ll just replace them.

The surface corrosion at the rear bank IG coils were amazingly low considering
their age and mileage.

The spark plugs.
The one at #1 cyl was very loose.
I could have loosen it with just my finger though there was no sign of exhaust gas escaping.

The one at #4 cyl had lots of oil around the thread.
Probably the plug hole seal is already leaking.

All six plugs looked to be replaced in the past so going to re-use them.

Several bolts at the IG coil covers were replaced with fairly long ones.

I’m bit concerned about the length so hope no damages were done to the
valve covers.

Will try to get the proper ones if I can get them in time.

Time for the compression check and then start removing lots and lots of parts.

More to follow later.
