The rubber gasket was not installed properly and misaligned resulting in oil pan not seating properly.

In fact, it managed to cut through small part of the rubber gasket causing more leakage.

From the service history, it looked like this was done while this NSX was in Japan.

Because of the oil leakage, someone also tried to tighten the fixing bolts and nuts further, making the issue even worse.

This resulted in deformed top section of the oil pan.

Typical mistake for working on aluminium oil pan.

Peasonally, I think it is also down to the wrong torque spec in the Workshop manual as well.

Using 14Nm on the combination of rubber gasket and aluminium pan with this typical notch at the mating surface is not a good idea…

Despite of using so much liquid gasket, there was no trace of it at the Oil Pump and Left side cover mating area so looks like someone in Japan didn’t follow the manual.

There is an interesting article on Prime recently about the usage of the liquid gasket – Honda bond.

http://www.nsxprime.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145007

I have never spoken or even exchanged an email with Larry but just reading other posts on Prime, he is probably one of the most experienced NSX specialists in the world.

It’s interesting to see his comment and the different approach in Japan.

In Japan, there are several NSX specialists and as far as I know, all of them use liquid gasket on cam plugs, oil pan, etc but they don’t use the Honda bond.

Honda bond in Japan is gray colour and in UK, majority of Honda garages are using the black one. Not sure about the one in US…

Instead of Honda bond, NSX specialists in Japan tend to use the one from the specific chemical company.

I also use it for my TB/WP/Valve service.

By using this specific one, we found that it prevents the oil leakage for longer period than assembling the parts without it.

I’ll just follow what I learnt from my master and keep using the same products from this company in Japan.

Scraped off all of the remaining liquid gasket and cleaning the area to create oil free surface before applying my favourite liquid gasket.

Time to take shower as my hair was covered in dust even wearing the cap…

    Hi Kaz,

Not specific to this post/blog, but from your records is is possible that you can develop a directoy to your blog or health check thread? With so much valuable information spread over so many pages, having a reference thread is something I would find very useful as I'm sure other owners would too. For example, cleaning cabin sensor = post # xx.

Thanks for your telephone support yesterday (whilst the forum was off line) both jobs completed.

    Thank you, Paul

    Hi, Paul.
Yes, I’m in the process of designing the structure for the link to some of the common subjects.

However, it will rely on the stability of the NSXCB site which is not great at the moment.

For this reason, I’m also in the process of setting up backup method as I couldn’t update the owner for the progress of my service using this site.

Also, some of the owner tried to contact me through PM or I tried to replied back to their PM but without the access to the site, it is not possible to use the PM.

In the meantime, my recommendation is to load more than 500 posts in single page and save it on your local hard drive.

Then, it is quite easy to search any topics without scrolling the pages as everything is in one page.

I have full back up of my ‘NSX Health Check Service’ thread including the photos and it’s only about 14MB.

I can load it regardless of the access to the internet and I can search any topics/word/etc using the 'Find' option through any web browser software.

You can use Greasemonkey or Auto Pager Add-ons for your browser to achieve this.

If anyone needs further info, just let me know.
