NSX Health Check Service – Day 7

Following on from yesterday, another JDM NSX visited my place.

It’s a very special face lifted model and I know there are only about 110 available in the world.

I drove two of them a while ago in Japan when I had the opportunity to test many NSX back to back and this time, it was interesting to see how it was modified to meet the UK regulation.

It was honour to be able to test drive the 3rd one within a short period considering the rarity of this model and it was just as expected.
Always exciting while driving and yet pleasure just watching it from outside.

I was quite surprised on how the suspension behaved on UK road compared to the ones I tested in Japan.
I was ready for the harsh damping rate but instead, it was reasonably comfortable.

Probably it was the combined effect of the non-OEM tyre and (still very low but) properly driven mileage on the clock whereas the two NSX in Japan had very little mileage and equipped with the super hard side shoulder OEM tyres.

The car was generally in good shape and some of the suspension parts looked still like new.

One surprising thing to find on this model was some sort of aftermarket big sub woofer at the passenger foot well.
It was mounted on a thick case that it reduced the comfort for the passenger foot area and not sure about the quality of the installation.
The owner wants me to take it out any way and decide what to do with the entire audio system.

Looks like someone moved the cabin blower motor fan unit in the past.
It was not positioned properly as the pin was not inserted to the anti-vibration mount at the water valve holder.

Needs to be very careful dealing with any part of the interior trim as the surface finish is completely different from other NSX.

Once again, another NSX with sharp bent at the battery GND cable.
This one looked to be already damaged part of the cable due to stress at the edge of crimped terminal.

On so many NSX, the GND terminal is over torqued resulting in loose connection.
The Battery GND post diameter is smaller than the Positive side so people tend to tighten it as much as possible but the post itself is soft lead material.

You are just squashing it and creating another issue by over tightening it.
Once the GND post is damaged, you will never be able to achieve the snug fit unless you sandwich something between the terminal and the post.
I used to use fishing weight lead sheet but not sure whether it is still available or not due to local regulation these days....

Other points such as Main Relay, Drive shaft noise, dirty blower motor fan & cabin temperature sensor, brake calliper overhaul, etc were nothing new and common to all other NSX.

Hope to be able to look after this NSX in the near future.
