Electronics Service 01

Rate this Entry

Over the last 4 weeks, had to focus on Electronics service only.
Still lots to do but shifting to Mechanical service more from next week.

As there were so many components involved, I’ll create individual blog separately so just summary here.

Audio Head Unit with short circuit at the middle board.

The mystery short circuit that I reported last year.
Without circuit diagram and there was no obvious damage that can be seen.
So, had to check each components one at a time against known good circuit board.

At the end, it was caused by one of the capacitor.
The leakage was so small that not even wetting the board surface.
Only found it after removal and the lead had to be wiggled.

Glad to report that this head unit is now fixed and installed on my NSX.

So far, covered over 130miles of test driving including all sorts of environment condition and continuous driving to/from Oxford.

Bose AMP

Please, don’t use this package for the FET wth this AMP.

The drain at two of them are at +Ve.
Other two are audio output +/-.

With the aluminium cover, it will short 12V directly to the audio output.

Could damage the speaker itself.
Advised the owner to look for the specific damages.

When received, only 0.03A consumption at 14.5V.
No power to Bose IC U2.
2.7ohm resistor fried, C34 shorted and who knows what happened to U2.

Normally, I would prefer replacing it with my spare unit but none readily available.

At the end, replaced all FETs, resistor, C34 and even the Bose IC U2 that I sourced from Aliexpress.

Tested more than 36Hrs and returned to the owner.

Another head unit.

Lost power and hats off to the owner.

He managed to recover at least the power but no output signal at all from any of the modes.

Lots of cleaning to be done and on removing the connector, found several dissolved tracks/pads.

May need removing another connector and replace the OPAMP as well.

Quite surprised with so much leakage at the 4 x 470uF caps.

Challenge continues as the owner is happy to wait.
