Gauge Cluster service 01

Rate this Entry

Doing fair amount of catching up updating the blog from last year.….

A while ago, another owner contacted me with the famous false [ BRAKE LAMP ] warning.

For European model, looks like it would trigger not just the brake lamp warning but also the parking brake indicator even if the lever was fully released.

Under this condition, if you move the car, it would trigger the ABS and TCS warning lights.

I found the similar phenomenon more than 10 years ago when I was servicing the tailight gasket for one owner.

While having the Right side taillight assy disconnected and then turn the IGSW into P2 On position, the parking brake indicator would stay On even after releasing the parking brake lever.

This won't happen on the JDM spec.

So, received the gauge unit and started the initial inspection.

As always, several debris, dust, etc trapped inside the clear cover.

Lots of fingerprints left as well.

EPT sealer was dead and doing almost nothing.

I was hoping to take the photo of the car shaped LED indicator at the bottom centre with all of the warning LEDs switched On but at very faint/dim state,

It only happened when I powered it up for the first time and by the time I tried taking the photo, it was gone so will try again after I started disassembling the board.

I pretty much know under what condition it will trigger this phenomenon and seen it happening on several NSX in the past.

By now, almost all NSX gauge would show some level of offset at the tacho and the speedo.

With this gauge, small offset even below 2,000rpm.

It was showing bit higher figure.

By 7,500rpm, it was showing just about extra 450rpm and the needle sat close to 8,000rpm.

On the other hand, some owners mentioned that they hit the rev limiter well before reaching the red zone.

Quite often, it's the gauge offset.

Not too bad for the calibration of the volt meter after years of use.

Will adjust it after refurbishing the circuit board.
