Audio Head Unit (Acura) service 01

Back to the technical mode….

A while ago, serviced another audio head unit.

Very rare model in UK though….. Acura spec.

The JDM and Acura use diversity system to handle the multipath interference while the European models are not and just single pole antenna.

The frequency range and channel separation are also different so it was interesting how the Acura spec can pickup the radio stations in UK.

Mine is JDM and only 14MHz bandwidth when European spec has over 20MHz that even with the use of frequency expander, I always lose some of the stations at the higher/lower side of the frequency range.

The owner told me that long time ago, he started losing the sound when in tuner mode but still getting some level of sound while using the CD changer.

Then, lost the power to the head unit and nothing happens at all.

The owner already replaced the speaker boxes several years ago so most likely, the audio head unit failure.

Also found out that the clock no longer works and as expected, the 7.5A CLOCK fuse was blown.

At that point, I knew it would be a big challenge as the clock fuse is shared for the audio head unit backup circuit that most likely, power line was shorted somewhere inside….

When I received the unit from the owner, I noticed that typical smell of burnt circuit board.

And this was what I found….
