Leather Treatment

Time for another treatment.

As mentioned in my old post, I used to just use any hand moisturiser that I was using at that time for myself to treat the leather.

It worked well on all the cars I had in the past and doing the same for my NSX as well.

Used to use Nivea, Dove, etc and my favourite was Johnson's baby soothing naturals.

Years ago, I just asked the nearby equestrian centre on what they use for their saddle treatment, etc and they just showed me the thick red paste like material in a small can.

It sounded very strange but it was called as Ko Cho Line.

May have changed the packaging or even the name by now but it's still available.

Some say it won't work because the surface of the leather seat is actually coated and treated against moisture, wear, etc.

For me, it always worked for like 40 years on many cars so I'll just keep doing the same for my NSX.

For perforated leather, first rub the product into the microfibre cloth or soft towel and then wipe the perforated section to prevent clogging up the tiny holes.

For the normal leather like mine, I just use my hands.

The area around seatbelt anchor and the side shoulder can repeatedly get scratched everytime when getting in and out of the cabin.

Just get generous amount/dub of this thick paste and rub it in.

As you can see in the above photo, don't worry about leaving thick amount on the surface.

Same for the shift lever, steering wheel, etc.

The instruction says to leave it for 12Hrs but I normally leave it like well over 24Hrs and still, won't leave stain marking, etc.

Please note that mine is black leather and may not be the case for lighter colour leather.

On my boss's MX-5, it has light tan/camel leather and when I applied this, it may have darken the colour just a bit but at the same time, it felt almost nothing changed.

Once left long enough, just simply wipe off the excess using the microfibre cloth.

Good thing with this product is that it won't make the seat slippery.

Once finished with the leather section, keep the used towel and wipe the door card, etc for quick cleaning.

Don't recommend using it on the dashboard as it causes strong reflection under the sun.

Will last for months or even whole year depending on how often you use the car.

Not bad for 27 years old with more than 165K miles leather

I've been thinking of what treatment to use on my seats, so will now give this a go. Thanks for the tip Kaz.
