Compression Check, Eng Oil (my NSX)

Rate this Entry

Normally, I would change the eng oil and the filter every spring and autumn but slightly later timing for 2020 and this year.

In the meantime, with the help of another owner nearby who takes PCR testing regularly, been testing my new procedures working safely around the car for both the owner and myself.

Even after getting the 2nd dose of the vaccine weeks ago, still not comfortable carrying out the ABS Upgrade, etc that requires me staying inside the cabin and breathing hard for long enough time.

The next testing step would be carrying out the door window refresh that allows me working with the door fully opened with the air ventilation fan in operation.

Then, if I feel comfortable enough, I'll try the ABS upgrade with lots of extra time.

And finally, I hope I can go back to the normal service time table.

Thank you for those waiting in the queue for a long time.

For now, I was only going to investigate the strange light carbon dust on the front bank spark plugs for the owner.

The more I investigate, the more I got worried and now we came to the conclusion that something not done properly during the major service carried out by the main dealer years ago while this NSX was owned by the previous owner.

I must take the eng/gbox out as I found so many major mistakes inside/outside the engine.

Hence, the lift is now occupied with the eng/gbox out of the bay that I had to change the eng oil and the filter without the use of the lift.

Can't remember the last time I did it on the stand….

Glad it didn't start raining.

Few days later, carried out the compression check.

Been doing this since new every year so I have all the historical data.

Always nice to see consistent data even after 27 years with over 265,000 km (about 166K miles).

[psi]
#1cyl: 240, #2cyl: 244, #3cyl: 247,
#4cyl: 240, #5cyl: 240, #6cyl: 244

Nothing new with the appearance of the spark plugs so going to just re-use them.

VVIS butterfly screws are fine.

As I started to see the white smoke on the first fireup of the day after parking overnight, time to replace the valve stem seal.

Early 2022 would be 10 years since my last Eng Refresh so good opportunity for removing the cyl head.

Still not sure what to do with the valve seat cutting as I just don't know the best place for this task around the area.

Race teams are too busy around that time of the year.

Hope I can put reasonable mileage this summer.

Still not been on the motorway since 2019 Christmas so very-very limited mileage.

Not doing the Silverstone Classic this year but hope I can catch up with some of you here in the future.

Hope everyone is doing fine.
