Autowit SuperCap 2 - Ultracapacitor jump starter 01

It's been well over 6 years since I took this video on the jump starter battery pack.

So far, I only used it several times helping the neighbours, etc and kept fully discharging and then charging it every 2 - 3 months.

It still works fine and the package body has not expanded yet.
The typical sign of ageing with Li-ion battery when it gets really hot or when the body starts expanding.

But being as Li-ion and based on the technology/design around 2011 - 2014, I'm quite sure the actual battery capacity has degraded so started looking for a new one.

There are so many new products on the market that I could have gone with another Li-ion based one but on this occasion, decided to go with the ultracapacitor instead.

There are pros and cons on both technologies and with the current level of technology, one won't replace the other.

If you are interested, there are lots of technical articles on the web and also you can find many aspects of the next generation solid state battery as well.

Ultracapacitor can provide huge current consumption during short time frame but the voltage drops proportionally to the consumption.
It can charge itself up fairly quickly, higher temperature spec and much longer life cycle compared to the battery.

From vehicle point of view, the ECU requires minimum voltage to be able to control the fuel and the ignition.
When you crank the engine with the starter, at the very beginning, the engine is at 0rpm with massive friction and at that initial phase, the DC motor drains huge electrical current in the order of few 100A.

For our NSX, if the ultracapacitor can hold more than 8V of system voltage while providing enough energy to the starter during cranking, it would be an ideal jump starting solution.

However, if your car battery drained too far, you may not be able to jump start the engine with the ultracapacitor especially if you have to keep cranking for long period.
You may have better chance by stop cranking, let the ultracapacitor charged and try again or use the Li-ion jump battery in parallel.

So, after some research, decided to get the Autowit SuperCap 2.

Never bought anything from Alibaba or Aliexpress so wanted to give it a try as the manufacture was doing special offer several months ago.
Further research revealed that even if it was supposed to be delivered from China, it was very likely to be delivered through amazon UK as the manufacture had its official shop there.

At the time of the order, the exchange rate was not that strong like recently but still, good deal and got it at about GBP73 delivered.

Yes indeed, it was delivered and arrived in the familiar amazon package.

Nice storage bag.

Comes with the battery clamp that will be used for charging as well as for jump starting plus the cigarette socket and micro-USB cables for charging purpose.
