Moving on to the Brake overhaul process and already having fun with this…..

Although it was not seized (yet), the grease at most of the slider pins was already dried out and no longer soft resulting in very heavy calliper movement.

Some of the dust boots over the piston were not installed properly and causing excessive rust inside….

I contacted several local powder coating places including the wheel refurbishment shop in order to see whether they can paint these callipers and brackets for the owner but they were only interested in the industrial machinery or only deal with the wheel and not the brake callipers….

Looks like I’m going to have fun painting these by myself but the preparation work is going to be a long one as I don’t have shot blasting facility and these callipers are super rusty/dirty….

More to follow…

Hi Kaz , As always I am following your reports with interest and just wondered if my powder coating facility would be helpful here.
At the moment I don't have a shot or bead blast unit, but I would be happy to assist you if possible.

    Regards Martyn

Dear Kaz, do you think it would be worth it to try and find a place like this (http://www.goldlinebrakes.com/PolymerCoating.htm) in the UK or Europe? They mention downsides to powder coating brake calipers but I don't know whether those are real issues or just a marketing ploy.

    Hi, Martyn.
Good to hear from you again.

I can’t try something new on owner’s NSX before trying it on mine first or on my spare parts so not for this time.

It will be really nice if we can try something in the background as the future project.

I have spare calliper that is not going to be used so we can do anything on it.

I wanted to try soda blast method as well and in US, it seems one can buy mobile unit at very reasonable cost but probably not in UK…

The only thing is the weight of the four callipers and the brackets… Hope we can find reasonable delivery method at good price…

Will contact you once I have more time …

Hi Kaz, it might be worth asking 'big red brakes' if they can do just the coating process for you... http://www.biggred.co.uk/

    Hi, greenberet.
Good to hear from you again and as always, very informative posts on NSX Prime.

    Thank you for the link.

I knew a company in Holland called Budweg but again, I didn’t pay much attention to them as they were also making the same mistake as ‘Bigg Red’ described in the reply to the member ‘britlude’ below.

I knew them through MX5 owners and I knew at least one owner here used their parts but had some trouble during the installation.

Not sure whether it was the parts issue, installation method or something else….

As they sell re-manufactured calliper for NSX, may be they can do something for the NSX owners based in Europe???

Not sure about the claim on the powder coating on the calliper especially for the heat generated by the performance of production car level.

As well as the heat dissipation from the calliper surface, the anti-heat radiation characteristic will play a certain factor.

I’ll be more worried if my calliper, disc, pad are getting so hot than the painting method…

Any way, thank you for pointing me out the potential concern.

    Hi, britlude.
Good to hear from you again and thank you for the suggestion.

I knew this company through ebay but didn’t pay much attention to them as they seemed to be not familiar with NSX brake.

They stated their front and rear calliper service parts are suitable for all models from 91 onwards but that’s wrong as the piston size on both front and rear was changed in late 90’s.

In fact, there are lots of manufactures making similar mistake for the brake related parts such as disc/rotor, brake lines, etc claiming that they are all compatible for all models from 91 onwards.

Having said this, I didn’t know they were offering several different finishes on their refurbishment service for the callipers.

Worth a call in the future.
