What surprised me was the extent of the rust on the shaft and outboard joint.

In fact, my concern became reality later.

While the grease started leaking at the inboard joint, more damages were done at the outboard side.

Even there was no damage to the boot, moisture entered from the shaft body side under the smaller diameter boot band.

It was so weak that almost all four bands broke off while releasing them.

The brown markings are rust and not the old grease or scorched.

Must have been like that for ages because the rust was present not only at the joint housing wall but also on all three rollers and even inside the rose joint.

The spots/stain like markings are all from the rust.

Hope I can take better photo this afternoon when disassembling the roller.

Couldn't paint the joint and shaft yesterday as it was too cold even inside the garage.

Hope I can paint them tomorrow.

Time to plant the 100s of pin bearings..... My eyes are getting too old for this task .....
