ABS Service

It is important to flush the ABS system regularly especially if you have the 1st and 2nd generation ABS on your NSX.
1st and 2nd generation ones will have separated reservoir just in front of the Brake master cyl.
3rd generation (upgraded ABS) one is part of the Main brake system and sharing the master cyl reservoir.
This NSX is equipped with 2nd generation ABS so has been modified to cope with several known issues on the 1st generation one but still requires regular flushing.
Using ABS SST to remove the high pressure brake fluid from the accumulator.
It will be flushed twice before start activating the four solenoids.
Using the correct mating terminal to flush the solenoid.
While activating the solenoid, you’ll see creamy formed brake fluid returning to the reservoir.
Before moving onto the next solenoid, emptied the reservoir to get rid of any potential debris and also didn’t want to pump the ‘full of air brake fluid’ back into the accumulator.
Once all four solenoids were flushed, the accumulator was flushed two more times before pressurising it to complete the service.
One tip for you.
It is always a good idea to apply silicone grease on the solenoid connector bracket in front of the ABS reservoir.
On many NSX, this bracket got corroded and hard to separate the connectors from there.
If you can’t separate the connector from the bracket, you can remove the bolt holding the bracket to the chassis but I would rather prevent the corrosion from happening and save my precious time.
The fluid level will be adjusted after activating the ABS several times during the test driving session.
Done.
