As reported earlier, there were several not serious but different markings on the rear bank cam shaft especially on the intake side.

On R3 cam holder, noticed a chip, almost identical to the one you will see on casting issue when a few sand pieces were left.
Probably debris was trapped when line boring was done at the factory.
Good quality eng oil will act as good molecule bearing so just keep replacing the oil regularly.










New o-ring under the #1 cam holder.














One must create clean and oil free mating surface on the cam holder as well as on the cyl head before applying the liquid gasket.












No time taking the photo while dealing with the liquid gasket so just the end result.

Carefully tightened the cam holder bolts while keeping the metal at steady temperature.

Punched in the camshaft brown seal.












Is your camshaft black end disc/seal clean and dry like this?
This is how it should look when left the factory and if done properly, it should stay dry for many years.










Before placing the cam pulley, clean the mating surface of the valve cover gasket as much as possible as the space will be limited once other parts are installed.












All four camshafts back in place.

    when reinstalling the cam holders, do you lube the bolt threads with some motor oil and then tighten to torque specs?

    Yes, you must apply eng oil not only to the bolt thread but also to the bolt head base.
    If you look inside the mating thread, you will notice that some of them are closed pocket.
    Therefore, be careful not to flood the hole while installing the bolt.

    The o-ring under the #1 cam cover: Is this the o-ring that is responsible for keeping higher pressure oil within the small channels that engage vtec (eventually leading to the synchronizing pin) and prevent it from spilling over around the rest of the head?

    That o-ring is for the oil feed passage on both the intake and exhaust cam plates for cam shaft lubrication.
    #1 cam holder/cap has Y-shaped channel where it meets that o-ring for the oil to be passed to the in/exh cam plates.

    Oil pressure is controlled by the relief valve next to the oil pump depending on the crank rpm.

    The oil passage to the VTEC is at the other side of the eng where the VTEC Spool valve sits.
    You can see the shape of the channels at the side of the cyl head where the rocker shaft sealing bolt sits.
    Normally, the rocker shaft is used for rocker area lubrication but when all the conditions are met, the spool valve will apply much higher oil pressure to it.
    At the end of the rocker shaft, there is orifice control valve and this will keep the oil pressure high enough to engage the primary piston during the VTEC operation.
