Big thank you to Bigg Red for their professionalism and honest feedback.

Even before sending the caliper and bracket to them, I knew coating them in yellow won’t be an easy task so
already told them that the owner was happy with black if any issues experienced.

The owner wanted to try yellow as the first choice with black as the backup.

They had to strip off everything and repeat the whole process again as the 1st and 2nd attempts in yellow
didn’t turn out with good result.

They contacted me with the fact so far and as I already expected some difficulty, contacted the owner and
we all agreed that after the 3rd attempt, if it didn’t come out good, we would switch to black premier coating.

Despite the extra days spent, Bigg Red kindly offered the service at the same price as the original quote.
Really appreciate that.

Although they offer the full refurbishment service, I prefer doing it by myself so inevitably,
I must clean the left over of shot blast medium as well as remove some of the coating
that is not ideal on re-assembly so extra hours required but what I like about their service is the
level of chemical treatment and protection for the future rust.

Nicely treated internal bore.

I know several owners used their premier coating and every year when I look at them,
it’s still in really good shape so if you can wait for the turnaround time of about 2 weeks,
it’s worth every penny.

Once again, thank you to Bigg Red for supporting our NSX community.

Why couldn't Big Red get an acceptable yellow paint finish???

Presumably if I sent my callipers off to Big Red and wanted them painted in Formula red it wouldn't be a problem in that colour???

    Hi, Pride.

Yellow is a very interesting colour and if you study about it from the point of human eye sensitivity, pigment, base coat colour, coating thickness, etc, you will understand how time consuming it is to get good result.
I learnt a lot about coating/painting materials when trying to hide GPS aerial behind certain places on F1 cars.

    Bigg Red can do yellow coating as per link below;

However, I already knew from the past experience that Bigg Red won’t return the caliper unless they are happy with really high standard finish.

One time, Bigg Red apologised to the owner and me for not being able to achieve the good result on black coating but when we received the caliper back from them, even the owner told me that for the price (GBP131 for coating 4 x caliper + 4 x carrier bracket including delivery charge), it was acceptable finish so this tells how far Bigg Red wants to go for paying attention to detail.

So, when the owner wanted to have the caliper coated in yellow, I already told him the difficulty and asked for the second option of black even before asking Bigg Red because I already knew it will be a challenge.

I have never tried red on NSX caliper and it’s another interesting colour from the point of pigment but on caliper metal material, should be fine.
