MX-5 Front Brake

I thought about taking full day-off on Bank Holiday as I felt as if kept working over the last few months apart from attending the Silverstone Classic event.
With so much delay in NSX services for the owners, I had to turn down many generous offers and invitations including the NSXPO in US.
Some included the opportunity to meet the new NSX very closely so bit disappointed.....

Any way, while sitting in the garden, realised that it was the good timing for working on the MX-5 so back into the garage....

EBC Greenstuff pad and standard disc

Initially, I was looking for the EBC Redstuff as I have very good pedal feeling and performance from it on my NSX and
while both F&R set were listed on the mx5parts.co.uk, I couldn’t find the front set on the ebcbrakeshop.co.uk.

So, spoke with EBC and apparently, Redstuff is more suited for faster and heavier cars than the MX-5.
For lightweight sports with no modifications, Greenstuff is the better choice for Mk1 MX-5.

So, went for the Greenstuff front set with EBC Plain disc.
Once again, the disc came with nice black coating, just like the recent ones for the NSX.
Long time ago when I ordered the disc for my NSX, they came without any black coating so
I had to paint the edge to minimise the rusty appearance.

Although the pad came with the shim installed, I couldn't install them even with the piston pushed all the way back into the caliper so
re-used the OEM thin metal shim on the inner pad and left the outer one without it.
Once the pad wore a bit, may install the outer shim later but considering the way this car is driven, not really required.

Still the pad is at the top layer of 'brake-in' or 'break-in' coating but with the Greenstuff,
the pedal feels bit softer compared to the OEM pad/disc though it's much more linear to the pedal force.

Eventually, I'll be replacing the rear side and carry out the brake caliper OH again so
it will be interesting when all four corners are updated.

Once again, thank you to ebcbrakeshop.co.uk for their great service.

Quick Eng oil + filter change followed by replacing the aftermarket central locking actuators as
they got moisture inside and seized after years of usage.

Still enjoy driving this MX-5 even after 23 years.

23 years - credit to you ... but then when built to a standard and then maintained to a standard its no real surprise.

Thank you for the compliments, nobby. Yes, it’s a machine so even without driving, it will wear out but then, if driven regularly and looked after properly, it should last for a long time.
