AC Refresh Final Touch 02

Rate this Entry

Run in the compressor for more than 15min at idle rpm and then the moment of truth.
Kept the eng rpm at 1,500rpm to carry out the AC performance test.

I don't trust these cheap digital weather station so instead, held the old school dry/wet thermometer against
the cooling fan set at high speed to achieve about 3m/s.

Couldn't hold the camera at the correct angle while holding the thermometer against the fan but
the reading was dry at about 19.8degC and wet at just about 18degC.

The atom pressure doesn't affect much at this region but still, quickly used Excel to
calculate the formula and came out with the humidity at just above 80%.

In ideal world, I wanted to test it when it's much hot, like over 30degC but for now,
I'll settle with 20degC knowing that it won't be as accurate as the test carried out at
much higher temperature.

The expan valve continuously changes its spray port size depending on the tube temperature so the pressure gauge reading
will change continuously but both the compression/high side and the suction/low one are within the +/-10% window so happy with them.

The air coming out from the centre vent is just simply freezing cold at about 8degC so really happy with the performance.

The site glass at the receiver shows no big bubbles and you can just about tell the refrigerant flow
by the clear mist through the window which is normal for R134a.

New cap at the high and low side ports.

AC Refresh done.

Covered about 150miles since the AC Refresh and I just love it.

First thing I noticed was that the new compressor was simply just so quiet.
Although I disabled my original compressor months ago (thus no noise from it) and it was not noisy beforehand, I knew how it would sound by driving many other NSX from different year models.

This new P9K compressor is very quiet and as expected, similar to the later year models.
It felt as if the condenser fans were like 100 times much more noisy than the compressor alone.

As I re-used the compressor CL, I didn’t want to push too hard and engage the AC at VTEC region or during hard acceleration but still, I felt much less power loss compared to my old compressor when it engaged. Similar to what I felt when I drove R12 system NSX.

I just hope it won’t cause slow leakage from the pipe that I couldn't replace between the R & L condenser and also the partially seized fitting at the L condenser side.
So far, there was no change at the site glass

Until then, I'm just going to enjoy driving my NSX although I'm already working on another NSX and tackling with the 'BRAKE LAMP' warning light.
