AC Refresh Final Touch 01

Rate this Entry

In preparation for re-charging the refrigerant, wanted to put just the minimum bits back into the car
so that at least I can drive the car for short period and then take everything out again to do
proper installation for the interior panel alignment.

Bit waste of time doing duplicated tasks and if I have to do this again next time,
I would consider the mobile refrigerant recharge service or
based on my previous service experiences, I would attend 1day course to get the f-gas certificate
if there is enough demands for this kind of service.

Disabled the compressor, another vacuum drying process and then 850g of refrigerant went into the system
but I think that includes the amount left inside the charging hose so probably about 800 – 830g in there.

Although I didn't check the performance chart, the pressure looked good and
the air coming out of the vent was just freezing cold.

Really happy with it as it's been several months since last time I got this feeling.

It's a brand new compressor so didn't want to run it before doing proper run-in cycle so
disabled the compressor again before heading back.

By the way, the slow warm up of engine didn’t change even after replacing the thermostat.
The gauge circuit board and the gauge itself were fine so the only thing left was the sender unit.

Surprise, surprise.

It was showing 153ohm when it should be about 50ohm.
Never heard of failure with this sensor….

Not sure why the gauge didn’t stay at the bottom - cold marking - with such high resistance but
it’s not correct and needs replacing.

I'm planning to replace the radiator again in the future once I can get the parts so
will replace the sender unit at that time because I must drain the coolant first as it involves the use of the liquid gasket.

Time to take everything out again and do the proper alignment.

Applied 303 to the entire dashboard to keep it clean.

New defrost panel installed.
Hope it will survive for another 20 years without cracking….

There was already some spacers from the factory at the right side dashboard and
I’m happy with the alignment to the door card.

At the left side, I knew it was not perfect from the factory but good enough.
Tried my best but didn't want to go any further as it may put too much force on the defrost panel resulting in future crack so
bit of compromise here.
Will see what I can do on the door card side in the future but not now as I really must finish this AC refresh.
