AC Refresh 12

Rate this Entry

Doing bit of catch up updating the blog as I wanted to focus on re-installing the parts so that
I can drive my NSX to have the a/c system charged.

One of the most common place for the refrigerant leakage, the schrader valve.
Although it will be covered by the o-ring equipped cap, best to replace it at the time of A/C refresh.

By the way, while having extra space, decided to replace the CL and BR pedal switch stopper.
CL side was easy.
Will do the BR side once I can start the engine to activate the booster.
Without the booster support, I don’t think I can press the BR pedal far enough….

Heater unit back in place.

I was bit concerned about the state of the fitting thread at the L-condenser.
It was partially seized when I tried disconnecting the pipe.

Managed to get good seal but considering the fact that I couldn't replace the pipe connecting both R & L condensers
as the fittings were seized, I may need replacing both condensers in the future if the leakage happens here.

No time taking the photo while dealing with the compressor and receiver
as they will absorb moisture very quickly so just a note.

Service valve installed with new gasket, hand cranked the CL more than 20 turns,
installed and then finally, time to install the receiver.

Quickly connected the gauge manifold and the vacuum pump.

1st stage 45min vacuum pump evacuation followed by 15min leak check by shaking each pipes and fittings.
Happy with the result and since I have no idea how far the flushing fluid evaporated,
decided to run the vacuum pump for another 2Hr and then monitored the gauge after leaving it overnight.

Even with this procedure, once you start pressuring the system, it could develop some leakage but will see…..

While waiting, started re-installing some of the cabin parts and vacuum leak checked the coolant system
in preparation for the eng fireup.

Thought about removing the SRS related items completely off the car but my model came with the seat belt pre-tensioner
that I decided to leave the SRS controller on the car.

Even after leaving overnight, no leakage under vacuum so re-installed at least the minimum parts to drive the car
so that I can get the refrigerant charged.

I could move the car without the gauge but don’t like the idea of driving without it so quickly replaced all 7 light bulbs,
quick cleaning of dust and ready to be installed back in the cabin.

Just preparing to fireup the engine for coolant bleeding.
Should be able to have the a/c system charged today.

In the meantime, testing the later spec red LED bulb for the rear fog purpose when used on JDM spec tail light assy.
It will be on the R side once done.

Hi Kaz, where did you get that LED bulb, I've been looking for that sort of backward reflection design for a long time now???

    Hi, Pride.

Question on LED from you….. That’s the least possibility that I would have thought of.
You already have many lights on your NSX….

I normally get the LEDs from Japan.
It's sold through a company called '亀石屋 Kameishiya'.
You can see the Japanese characters on the circuit board in the above photo.

I've been using their LED bulbs for years now because of their quality control despite being manufactured outside of Japan.
Also, they test each bulbs before shipping so never had any issues.

Although I don't use rear fog a lot these days, I'm still using the same LED bulb for years now.
The one in the above photo is the modified later design/spec for the model I’m using on my NSX.
I always passed MOT without any issues using it at my local Honda dealer since I started visiting them for the MOT purpose.

I saw several LED bulbs on UK ebay, amazon, etc with similar concept for ‘backward reflection’ so they may work for you.

Philips makes good automotive road legal (DOT, SAE, ECE) LED bulbs.
Not sure the red P21W replacement is in stock for UK market but worth checking.

Please double check the length and the diameter as some of the aftermarket ones are too wide/long and may not fit for your purpose.
