With the age and heat, the original sealing foam/sponge was already dead and it will break down in bits and pieces by
simply touching the surface.

Removing the double sided tape was always time consuming as the heater gun method won’t work
due to age and long term exposure to the heat that it just wants to stay there.

Bit of know-how here and cleaned to this level.
One down, more to go…..

As I decided to use EPDM tape rather than the very soft sponge one,
had to use mixture of different density depending on the structure design and sealing method used.

Gave good clean of the housing and applied 303 protection inside out to prevent the dust from sticking to the surface.

The air duct opening is a tight fit and by test fitting, the wool felt tape is just about the right thickness.
With such tight fit and the direction of the air flow, it’s more of noise prevention than sealing purpose.

Always interesting to see how the designer decided to use the small space efficiently for the HVAC.
