Apexi Air Filter

While I was going through the service history of one NSX for the future services at my place, I found interesting comments on aftermarket Air filter on the service receipts.
The receipt stated that it was washed and oiled regularly when this NSX was serviced at their place.

I never used aftermarket air filter on my NSX but I know some of the owners on here are using it and I saw at least one or two NSX with Apexi air filter when they visited my place or at the Club events.

With limited experience, I normally ask the owners to deal with it by themselves when it comes to the maintenance of these aftermarket air filters.

I always interested in how these air filters should be maintained because I saw buildup of sticky gunk at the TH butterfly or even some fine sand paper like tiny particles inside the intake manifold.
So, I decided to contact Apexi dealer in Japan and they told me that unlike other aftermarket air filters that require regular washing and oiling (wet type, like the ones from K&N), Apexi air filter is a DRY type that it should never washed or oiled at all.

It can be cleaned by blowing the air from inside out with some angle to the filter surface to prevent damages to the filter material but considering the cheap price of replacement element (like GBP30 - 35 in Japan), people normally replace it whenever it got dirty and that is the best method.

I contacted Detlef at Procar Special as I was quite sure that I saw Apexi filter inside his CF airbox and he has kindly confirmed that indeed he is using Apexi filter in his product and also always advising the buyers of his CF airbox to never wash or oil the filter.

Obviously, the ownership of the NSX could change later and this information may not be passed onto the new owner.

From the information I got, all of the Apexi air filter is the Dry type.

So, if you find Apexi air filter on your NSX, please do not wash or oil it but replace it with the replacement element.
If it was already being washed/oiled, the dealer told me that it must be replaced immediately as it is no longer acting as an air filter.

Not sure Detlef stock the replacement element but if you have Procar CF airbox, you can contact him.
