A/C CCU Board service 01

Rate this Entry

Have been really busy with one of the A/C CCU board as I wanted to finish and return it to the owner ASAP.
I even had to delay the service of another board in order to meet the quick turnaround requested by the owner.

The owner told me that it started to show the typical failure mode of fan only operates when it was set at max speed and just left it like that for quite some time.
Eventually, it completely failed and no more lights on the display and nothing.

So, the owner sent in his unit.
As soon as I opened the package, I smelt very strong smell, like the circuit board burnt.

Even with the later spec light green circuit board material, the acid leakage was so severe and left for a long time that it changed the area into black colour rather than the normal damage level of very dark green colour.

At that point, I knew it’s going to be a hard task so warned the owner for the possible delay.
Couldn’t clean and test some of the components without first removing them so that slowed down the process as well.

So many areas were contaminated by the leaked acid.

Started the cleaning process but not easy task when the acid managed to penetrate so deep into the board.
In fact, it took out many tracks, pads and joints……

Started rebuilding of dissolved pads, tracks and joints.
