While the leakage from the capacitors were minimum, there was suspicious leakage marking near the CD changer port. Couldn’t find where they came from….
Removed them and coated for now.
Started repairing the burnt ACC line but not ideal when you are forced to run the power line parallel to another one. I know how much power line noise were generated around the NSX so the Alpine and Bose engineers must have spent ages for noise protection…..
As my standard procedure, contact cleaner used for cleaning the volume control unit.
Not sure what these white bits are but some sort of contamination at the cassette unit roller.
Cleaned the head at the same time.
Later, I found that someone changed the gain control of the cassette unit for no reason.
Adjusted it properly.
Tested it in CD mode for more than 4Hrs.
All four channels were tested with no issues.
The cassette mode was tested but this was when I found the gain control issue on the cassette module only between the channels.
Fixed it and then tested the unit for 30min.
Kept the unit running in radio mode overnight so it went through hours of testing in this mode.
No issues and I’m glad I managed to refurbish the unit.
Quite worried at the beginning as I have no idea on what kind of extra damages were done by someone who worked on the unit before.
As I didn’t like the looks of the On/Off switch, asked the owner on what he wants to do.
It should be matt finish but over the years, it was scratched and somewhat polished so the top coating looked like lots of flakes as well as shiny.
After discussing with the owner, decided to replace them with the new ones but also going to return the original ones in case the owner wants to have classic/used appearance on the buttons.
Thank you for using my services.
I hope I can recover the CCU board functions very soon although it looked in really serious condition…
