A/C CCU Board service – The Worst 01

Rate this Entry
From time to time, I support Honda dealers and other garages through my services.
This time, I was asked to refurbish the CCU board at very short notice.

At that time, I was massively behind with the service on the NSX (and still I am….) so I told the representative that I would not have enough time to meet the time limit especially without knowing the level of damages to the existing board.
So, he decided to get hold of replacement board from somewhere else and I thought this case was closed.

One day, suddenly I got the delivery from this place and it contained the terrible looking CCU board.
It was even missing some of the original parts and clearly someone tried to work on it……

Apparently, there was some miscommunications between the representative and his source.
Originally, he was supposed to receive full working replacement board instead of this poor one.

And after talking to the representative, it became clear that I only have 2 days to meet the target…
To be honest, if we had extra time, I would have either asked for the existing board that was originally on that particular NSX or bought new CCU board from Japan (if still available, only about 13 new boards left in 2013…) and upgraded the caps because the board in front of me was just so terrible.

On top of this, none of us had no idea on what was the state of this board before someone started working on it and then eventually gave up.
There was no way for me to power up this board with missing parts and so many damages that I didn’t even know whether the board was working or not prior to becoming to this state…. No idea whether the CPU is still functioning or not.

Therefore, I told the representative that while I will try my best to at least finish the service, I can’t guarantee anything for the end result as we don’t know the state of the board before starting the service.

At the end, this board was by far the worst one that I have ever dealt with and made the new history record of my CCU service…..

Never spent full 2 days just for the CCU board and there was no way I could justify the full cost so I had to limit the max cost……
I’ll never be able to make some profit if keep doing this…..

The area between the two green connector was submerged by lots and lots of leaked acid.
Missing some of the original parts and also extra damages were created by the person who gave up…..

The most worrying thing was the fact that the board looked as if it was submerged in the water or seen excessive heat, almost like being burnt.
The outer vinyl of some of the caps were turned into white and melted.

The upper side wall of the buzzer unit was melted. If it was from the acid, it won’t be able to cause damage to the top section.
The 1st photo is from this board and the 2nd one is how it should look like.

It's also not easy to keep my motivation knowing that even after hours of challenges, some of the functionalities may never be recovered if the CPU was damaged.

Just keep scraping and cleaning to remove all leaked acid as much as possible…..
